Immaculata University (BA, Spanish)
I am a native speaker of Spanish and love introducing students to all aspects of Spanish language and culture. I believe that each student has a unique and individual learning style and my job as a successful educator is to work with that student in order to find his/her best way to learn. I enjoy giving students the tools to be successful, not only in Spanish language learning, but throughout all of their courses.
Since 2003, I have been a teacher of Levels I-V AP Spanish as well as Spanish for Native Speakers Level I & II, 6 sections each year, with an average class size of 25 in each section. I have a 100% pass rate (a score of 3 or higher is eligible for college credit and is considered a passing score) with the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam; 66% of my students received a score of 5 with the remaining students receiving 4s and 3s. The national average for a score of 5 is 27%.
I cover the spectrum of vocabulary instruction and pronunciation from elementary basic to intermediate advanced, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to encompass all learning styles and inclusion for special needs students. I use a variety of innovative and creative techniques to introduce and help students master unfamiliar grammar. In addition to my curriculum planning, I have successfully planned/implemented and led 4 school trips abroad to enhance language learning and cultural awareness for over 70 students. I am a peer educator to my department to share unique techniques to improve student writing.
To demonstrate how much I love working with children and teenagers in different capacities, I have been an assistant and head swim coach for 3 teams with responsibility for over 400 swimmers, several of whom achieved district level time standards, Junior Olympic time standards and YMCA National time standards. I am committed to learners of all levels, ages and interests and enjoy sharing my time and knowledge with them. Eileen really is connecting to my son and he is significantly benefiting from her help. His grades have improved markedly since he started seeing Eileen.
Eileen R. is very focused in her tutorials. She expertly identifies areas of difficulty and targets those areas in a way that makes sense to the student. She provides clear instruction and guidance on what the student needs to do in order to achieve the goals established. She established excellent communication with our son and he remains open to her instruction. She challenges our son and has realistic expectations from session to session. We are extremely satisfied with our decision to work with Eileen R.
Our daughter is thriving under Ms. Eileen's patient and encouraging tutelage. She's gone from a grade of C (immediately before we hired Ms. Eileen) to a current grade of A. Equally important, her attitude toward the subject matter (Spanish) has improved dramatically. Ms. Eileen obviously knows what she's doing.
Great job helping my high schooler. His understanding of speaking and writing Spanish increased. His grade improved. Also Eileen R was flexible and accommodated the occasional schedule change that he needed to balance his time.
Eileen is reliable, knowledgeable and has been very helpful. My son feels very comfortable with her and has learned alot from her.
This tutor is a winner! Eileen was prompt, prepared and always positive. Our student is not exactly happy about learning but he was always willing to go to his Spanish lesson. He connected well with Eileen and respected all the teaching angles she used to help him. Highly recommended.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
