West Chester University of Pennsylvania (Early and Special Ed)
I am currently a senior at West Chester University, studying early and special education. I am looking for a job for the summer of 2015. I will be student teaching in the spring 2016! I have been working in the Child Watch and YZone Departments at the YMCA on Airport Road, and I am interested in using the skills and knowledge I have learned. In the past couple of years, I have had so much experience observing and working with children and students. When I was a senior in high school, I had the opportunity to take an education practicum course working in a first and third grade classroom. During my freshman year of college, I did observations and helped out at the Goddard School in a toddler classroom, Henderson High School's preschool program, and Hillsdale Elementary School in a third grade classroom. In my sophomore year of college, I helped out in a social skills class at Fuggett Middle School, a direct instruction class in Peirce Middle School, Deveroux Cares in a non-verbal autisic support classroom, and a second grade class at Russell Elementary School. As a junior, I just finished my reading practicum course at General Wayne Elementary School in a second grade classoom, as I taught reading and writing workshop. In the spring semester of my junior year, I did my field placement in a daycare at Bright Beginnings in Oxford. In my free time, I have also volunteered at many organizations and programs that dealt with children. I was a camp counselor for a week at Gretna Glen Summer Camp, helped students with their homework at the Believe and Achieve Program at the YMCA, helped make coloring books for underprivledged preschools, volunteered at the West Chester Area Daycare, help teach lessons at New Garden Elementary School, and write to my pen pals through Post Pals- sick children. Last summer, I worked at the YMCA and I was a nanny for two children. While I was nannying, I wrote lesson plans everyday to ensure the children had a fun, active, and educational summer.
I have taken three college level reading courses for early education: Reading Foundations, Writing Foundations, and Reading Practicum. I spent my Reading Practicum course at a local elementary school, six hours a week, teaching reading and writing workshop, small reading/writing groups, and doing one-on-one instruction.
I am teacher cerftified in Pennsylvania PreK-4 and in the process of becoming certified in Special Education K-8. I have had numerous field placements in elementary schools since 2011, in classrooms K-5 grade and also in special education classrooms 6-8 grade.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently enrolled at West Chester University in the dual program: Early Grades Preparation PreK-4 and Special Education. I passed all of the elementary teacher certifications in Pennsylvania. Since 2011, I have been working with children, taking education classes to prepare me to become a teacher, and have numerous field placements in schools where I had the opportunity to work with an entire class of children, small groups, and one-on-one instruction.
