About Charlene

Bio

My name is Charlene. My students call me Mrs. P or Miss Charlee. I graduated from Wilson College in 2017 and I have been either substituting long-term or running a preschool classroom since then. My hours are flexible because I am currently homeschooling my elementary age daughter through virtual learning. My passion is helping students succeed by any means necessary. I will try every trick in my playbook my students understand. If those methods don't work, I research different ones.

I believe all students have a right to learn. They must to feel safe and welcomed in my classroom. No matter the skill level or background of my students, they will be treated equitably and fairly. Classroom management and proper conscious discipline techniques are imperative to foster learning. My goal as a teacher is to aid my students in becoming life-long learners and to prepare them for their future as successful students as well as well-rounded human beings.

I took multiple classes in college geared toward teaching math using common core methods. I keep myself up to date with a Common Sense Media subscription. With this subscription I find new techniques and activities every week.

I took multiple classes in college to prepare me to teach science using the national science education standards along with Pennsylvania State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

I love teaching spelling. It doesn't have to be the rote memorization that we remember from elementary school. I have many games and activities in my repertoire to help my students learn the English spelling patterns and memorize the anomalies in the language.

I understand that school can be challenging. I am here to help guide you through the frustration with positivity and perseverance.
