About Caroline

Hello! I am a 24-year old Villanova graduate with a Bachelor's degree in English. I work currently in the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District as a para-educator for children who need learning support. I work equally in the learning support classroom and regular education classrooms, which gives me experience working with students who struggle with focus, work completion, and motivation. Many of the students I work with may also have Dyslexia, Autism-Spectrum Disorder, or ADD-ADHD. While I am not specialized or specifically certified to work with any particular disability, I am open to working with children who may have a disability which impacts their learning, and thus far have gained quality training in these areas.

I am excited to work as a tutor because I find it incredibly rewarding to help children build confidence, strength, and motivation. Whether you are looking for homework help or tutoring for a child with or without a learning disability, I am committed to working with your child to understand his or her unique learning style so that he or she may become or continue to be academically successful. Together, we can identify learning and studying techniques that best suit your child.

In regards to mathematics, I work daily in a fourth-grade on-level math class and have experience particularly with the Math in Focus program. For each student I've worked with in math, I've learned methods of guiding them towards figuring out a problem on their own rather than merely correcting them when they are wrong. By going through a problem step by step, the information sticks with them much better and they feel good knowing they got there on their own.

I am an enthusiastic reader and lover of literature, so helping students with reading is one of my greatest passions when it comes to teaching/tutoring. I am experienced with helping children read on any level. With children who are learning to read, I will help them gain fluency and can help them practice phonetics that they struggle with. I will also work with them on comprehension (what's the main idea?), making inferences, and developing analysis skills. Furthermore, I find it important to encourage students of any age/level to feel something about what they read--do they agree or disagree? Do they relate to the character? Why or why not?

Beyond math and reading, I am happy to work with your child on other components of language arts, such as building vocabulary and writing skills. For all writing assignments, I will work with them on their voice (opinion, informative, or narrative writing), improving grammar, and organizing their thoughts clearly before writing to create a logical framework for them to use.

If your child requires help with handwriting or spelling, I'd be happy to work with them in these areas as well, to improve their practice and literacy. I am also happy to work on math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with flash cards or practice tests.

Please reach out if my qualifications interest you and suit your child's needs. Whether your child just needs help with homework or requires extra practice outside of school, I am happy and eager to work with you and your child to target his or her areas of need and help him or her succeed more in school.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
