About Richard

I am a very experienced tutor who has helped fellow co-workers as well as multiple students (Ages 7 - 21) in a range of subjects. I am also great at helping students prepared for standardized tests like the ASVAB and PRAXIS exams.

I have taught at five colleges in the Philadelphia area, mostly math and chemistry, over the last 10 years. I also love kids, having spent five years working in the Big Brothers program. I am very fun and flexible - You and your child will enjoy me thoroughly, and I will help put them at easy and get them smiling.

I live in Phoenixville, but work in King of Prussia. Thus I can meet near either location.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken two Algebra courses and no less than six Calculus courses. As engineering is based on algebra and Calculus, this is my strongest subject.

I have taught Algebra part-time at Holy Family, Eastern and Immaculata University over the last 8 years.

Algebra 2

I have taught elements of Algebra on a number of occasions, and enjoy this subject the most. As an Engineer, I repeatedly used Algebra in the course of my work.

I have taught Algebra classes at Eastern University, Holy Family and Immaculata over the last 8 years.

ASVAB

I have helped two students increase their ASVAB math scores by a significant amount after just one session, teaching them study and testing techniques as well as helping them solve tough problems.

Chemistry

I have taken two undergraduate Chemistry courses, two graduate environmental chemistry courses, one course in organic chemistry and one in biochemistry. I am most comfortable with high school or college students in their first chemistry course.

I taught Chemistry of the Environment at Eastern University in 2005.

Econometrics

I have taken three courses in macroeconomics, as well as two courses in statistics. I have taught probability and statistics on multiple occasions at the university level. I also passed the WyzAnt test for economics with flying colors.

Elementary Math

I have great patience for helping students who have trouble in math at all levels. I have been highly rated by my students - My ratings can be found on Rate My professor.com.

Government & Politics

I have worked for a high profile government agency for 28 years, been a speechwriter for a Presidential appointee, and been a volunteer instructor for Presidential Classroom five times.

I have a passion for our government and the workings of our democracy.

Praxis

I passed all of the Praxis tests in math, reading, and writing with flying colors just 1 year ago. I have also passed the Praxis tests in Math, Physics, and Chemistry in the last 7 years. I am well qualified to tutor a student in any of these subjects, and can submit my test scores if needed.

Prealgebra

I have taught Prealgebra and Algebra numerous times at area universities and my students have given me great reviews.

SAT Math

I have performed very well on standardized math tests (ASVAB, SAT, GRE & PRAXIS) and can help your student achieve the highest score possible.

Awesome tutor!

Richard helped me to study for my ASVAB test and really helped me to get a better score. It only took a few sessions to see an improvement. He explained everything in the easiest way so I could understand the information and not forget. He also found my areas of weakness and focused on them. He is an excellent tutor and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for tutoring.
