I am a professional educator and a writer of Fantasy, Fiction, and Poetry. I received my MFA in Writing Popular Fiction in January of 2013 from Seton Hill University with Hala’s Rite as my thesis novel, the first of seven based in the world of Vaelin. I am a native of Pennsylvania, and attended Pennsylvania Culinary, earning my Associates in Culinary Arts in 1993. I eventually found the field wearing and returned to school in 2001 and earned my BS in Secondary Education-English from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. In 2009 I was offered a job working for the Perseus House Charter School of Excellence, heading up their budding Culinary Program, returning me to his my love of food and meshing well with my dedication to education.
I have five years classroom experience in English – AP Literature and Composition, AP Grammar and Composition, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, ELL/ESL Classrooms, Special Education and Special Needs Students. I am active in the development of curriculum materials, plans, and instructional resources in the subject area with a wide variety of teaching methods, motivational and implementation strategies that encourage students toward active learning. Implement technological approaches to subject material. Research educational resources on the Internet. Assist with information retrieval. True dedication to a student’s success in all areas of academics and beyond.
I am different, far from the normal English teacher. I take a creative approach in my delivery of material and believe strongly in the formation of a student teacher bond. I am not here to just collect a fee for helping. I am dedicated to the whole experience and am willing to go above and beyond to ensure understanding and mastery of material. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
