About Brittany

As a School Psychologist, I am involved in the beginning process of Instructional Support and see the process through until the development and implementation of an Individualized Education Plan. I work with students at the elementary level to utilize interventions and strategies to improve academic knowledge and comprehension. I am knowledgeable in academic standards and developmental goals. I understand and have utilized effective teaching techniques for students with special learning needs. I relate well to children, and feel they best learn when the material is presented in a fun and often, tactile way. I am hopeful that I can use my education and experience to help all children succeed. In addition, to ensure confidence and safety, I currently work in the school system, which requires a background check and clearances to work with children. I can provide documentation of my educational credentials and school clearances. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I feel I am certified in academic areas K-6 because of my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I also work with children in those grade levels on a daily basis. Moreover, as a prevention specialist for the district I serve, I have the opportunity to tutor students in all academic areas. I am also familiar with effective modifications, interventions, and strategies to improve academic performance. All children learn differently. I feel that my educational background allows me to modify teaching to meet the strengths, as well as the weaknesses of the student.

Special Needs

I work with the students who receive special education services every day. I enjoy the challenge of working with students who have special educational needs. I feel that every child has strengths and weakness, and as an education specialist, it is my responsibility to help determine those strengths and use those to improve the areas of weakness. I have given over 450 psychoeducational evaluations to students and feel I have gained valuable experience that allows me to help all students.

Study Skills

As part of my job duties, I am required to provide tutoring or intensive instruction to students who are demonstrating academic deficits. I have a Mater's Degree in Elementary Education and an Educational Specialist Degree in School Psychology. I provide students with learning techniques to improve their study skills and academic performance. I have also taught students in note taking skills. All children need to learn ways to improve their comprehension. Flashcards, note taking, pneumonic devices, songs, rhyming, highlight main points, and lists are just to name a few techniques I have previously used to help students learn to study.
