I have been a nanny for a family of three boys for the past 13 years. I began working for this family at the young age of 11 and have been with them ever since. The oldest boy is 17 years old and the younger set of twins just turned 14. One of the twins was diagnosed with autism at a very young age. While caring for the children, I am in charge of cooking, cleaning, helping with homework, playing games, etc. I have also accompanied the family on trips to help out with all of the children, mainly the child with autism. This experience led me to get my degree in Special Education. In May of 2013 I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Special Education as well as my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with en Emphasis in Language and Literacy with a Reading Specialist certificate. I am a strong believer that children learn most when they are interested in the topic and are having fun! I work with a lot of educational games with my students, which can be very beneficial. I also believe in a steady routine, this helps the students learn what is expected of them and obtain the extra practice they need. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
