About Timothy

I don't have "professional" teaching experience per se, but I have spent most of my engineering life explaining things to budding engineers - being a mentor. Showing others "how it works" is fun stuff! I also have "trained" sales and marketing staff on how to explain to their clients how systems work. I can easily go from talking in high level technical jargon to other engineers and then switching gears to talking with others that are just getting started in the business.

I hold an Electronics Engineering degree from Pittsburgh Technical Institute. Microcontroller embedded design and programming is one of my forte's (I'm an 8051 family expert). Schematic entry and PCB design is also one of my proficiencies. I also work on high voltage power systems (UPS, generators and more), and Telecommunications (Internet, voice, dedicated circuits). Anything that has electrons moving in it, I have likely worked on.

I love math and it comes easy to me. Always remember that in Algebra, one side always has to equal the other side! Trig is about angles. The Pythagorean theorem is one of the most useful tools to an Electrical Engineer.

I know how to simplify things - take it down to the basics and then build up to more complex issues. Look at the big picture and then build it one piece at a time. Microcontroller/logic design and programming, high power electrical system design, documentation of all projects - taking notes and putting them into logical diagrams.

You'll have fun working with me. Remember the word fun. Once one has the basics of the subject, the rest is easy. The key is to build a solid foundation of the subject matter. The walls and the roof are much easier to build after that.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
