Matthew is a great tutor for my son. He checks in every week to see what my son is working on for school. Matthew brings new approach to learning. He always bring new worksheets for my son to work on and examples of writing for him to learn.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have skillful knowledge and understanding of teaching techniques in English. I organize learning resources to cater to student's individual academic level. I have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication that help convey English language and grammar.
I am proficient in teaching punctuation, parts of speech, and grammar rules. I normally start out with the twelve basic rules of grammar as a starting point before I give my students something more challenging. I utilize sample materials for students to study from.
I am proficient in the following literary genres: 1) Short Stories; 2) Plays; 3) Poetry; and 4) Novels. I teach literary devices to help students comprehend and interpret what they read. As a published writer, I have experience writing poems and short stories. I provide examples for students to learn from.
I have learned proofreading at the College level. As a published writer, I earned an additional certification in writing from the Writer's Bureau in Manchester England. As a freelance writer I edit and proofread grammatical and typographical errors before submitting my work for publication. I am able to use my work as an example for students to learn from.
I have tutored reading in many capacities both as a classroom instructor and as a volunteer, but mainly as a tutor. When I taught at Duquesne City School District, I assisted the reading specialist with her lesson plans. I particularly helped students with reading comprehension.
Spelling was part of the teacher curriculum in my College studies. As a substitute teacher I would sometimes administer and grade spelling tests. As a tutor, I provide study skills and spelling games to help students with spelling problems.
Vocabulary was part of the teaching curriculum. Before reading a particular theme or subject matter, I always like to go over vocabulary terms relating to the topic. I would use flash cards in helping students memorize vocabulary words. I also encourage students to use each vocabulary term in a sentence to gain understanding each word.
I am a published writer in America, Scotland, and England. Not only do I have a degree in English Secondary Education, but I have a certificate of competency from 'The Writer's Bureau' college in Manchester England. I help students develop their writing style while encouraging students to proofread and revise their work with the help of various writing tutorials.
