About Kristin

With a degree in Veterinary Medicine, I covered extensive topics in biology, including anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics, cellular biology, and nutrition. In Spring 2016 I completed my Master's in the Art of Teaching and received my PA teaching certificate in Biology.

While new to Wyzant, I have taught Anatomy and Physiology and tutored students at Butler County Community College. In addition to tutoring high school and college science courses, I also help students prepare for Keystone, AP and ACT exams.

Through science, we gain a greater understanding of the world around us. Today's students are under such pressure that science has lost its wonder. Science should be fun as well as thought provoking. I like to use real life examples, case studies and even examples from TV series, such as CSI, to make lessons more engaging for the student. Whenever I can, I like to do demos and hands on activities to really help students connect with the material.

Copies of my federal, state and child abuse clearances are available upon request.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I am a trained veterinarian. My course of studies included comparative anatomy and physiology with dissection. Following veterinary school, I got a job teaching anatomy and physiology at Butler County Community College.

Biology

For the SAT course, I cover topics in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Heredity, Evolution and Diversity, Biology of Organisms, and Ecology. We'll also cover test taking strategies and practice exams.

As my background is in veterinary medicine, I like to make connections to biomedical science and technology.

Also, I believe in real life examples/uses of the knowledge to make learning memorable and fun!

Study Skills

In addition to having a veterinary degree, I have a Master's in the Art of Teaching from Waynesburg University. I also have been tutoring at Butler County Community College, where I helped students organize their learning materials and study for their courses.

Zoology

I am a trained veterinarian and have a degree in animal science. For my biology certification, I completed college courses in vertebrate and invertebrate biology.
