Hello! My name is Anna and I am an experienced tutor in the Scranton-Wilkes Barre area seeking pupils who want to improve their writing, reading, and test-taking skills. I have a bachelor's degree in both history and political science and minors in education and music from Saint Vincent College, a nationally-rated liberal arts school in the Pittsburgh area. I received my master's degree in history from East Stroudsburg in May 2015, where I worked for two years as a graduate and teaching assistant. In August 2016, I will be receiving my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from King's College; my coursework at King's had been invaluable for staying abreast of current trends and teaching strategies in education. Finally, I will be working as a Teaching Assistant and taking classes in the doctoral history program at SUNY Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY.

I have taken the SAT's, Praxis, and GRE exams and have been involved in extensive preparatory classes for those exams. The students I tutor have the benefit of my effective study strategies and test-prep experience; most of those who work with me to prepare for the Praxis and SAT have all achieved their desired scores. My expertise and tutoring experience also extends to helping students create college application materials: resumes, admission essays, and cover letters that stand out. Also, as an employee of the Saint Vincent Admissions office as Director of Training for four years, I have garnered an astute sense of what quality higher education institutions are looking for in terms of college applications and interviews.

In addition to helping your son or daughter excel in their current elementary, high school, or college courses, I look forward to developing the necessary goals, skills, and other critical tools that will ensure that they achieve their educational goals beyond their graduation. Initially, I prefer to meet with both parent and student to establish tutoring goals and discuss learning strengths and challenges. I typically assess a student's competence in the reading, writing, and math section, then personalize my approach according to their readiness level for the exam. Once students have a test date scheduled, I draft a manageable study plan that has them focus on "chunks" of reading, math, writing, or vocabulary building. I have taken preparation courses for the Praxis I, and have also then mentored other students at a College preparing for the exam. In addition to coaching students on navigating the types of problems typical of the Praxis I exam, I help them to improve their overall writing skills and reading comprehension with simulated whole practice tests and essay completion.

Knowledgeable, Thorough and Need Focused

My daughter had her first session today and felt completely at ease with her most difficult subject. I could see the relief on my daughter's face after a very productive first session. We scheduled another right there on the spot. Anna is a fabulous female role model as well. She was able to demonstrate to my daughter, with sharing her own achievements, that dedication to academics can bring great accomplishment. Anna was personable, professional and caught right on to the specific areas my daughter needed help with in algebra, realizing we had a limited timeframe to complete a lot of work.

Anna is an organized and knowledgeable tutor who has evidently taught many students before. To help with the GRE analytical writing section, she looked over my essays, wrote comments, and in-person analyzed them in detail but also gave overarching suggestions. I sometimes had to ask for explicit examples of some of her recommendations, but she answered them very clearly. Effective tutor that I highly recommend for GREP prep!

Anna began tutoring my 6 year old daughter, Addison, in the middle of the second quarter. Within that month and a half, her language arts grade increased 3 points and her reading level went up 4 levels. She is patient with Addison when she becomes antsy after a long day. Anna always comes on time and with a selection of books for Addison to read. She assessed Addison's strengths and weaknesses quickly, and developed a personalized study guide for her to use each week. Anna is an amazing tutor. She has become a part of our family.
