Waynesburg College (Elementary Education)
My passion for teaching has been with me since I was a young girl. I absolutely loved learning and loved school. Now, I get to do just what I love, and that is to teach. I have been an elementary teacher for the same district for the past 11 years. I am a 5th grade teacher who has taught all subjects within the elementary level, but for the last 8 years have been solely teaching math and science. I have adapted my teaching styles to help students understand the common core methods that have been adopted in our school systems recently.
I just love teaching and helping students learn. I think that my love for teaching absorbs into my students and in turn, creates a love for learning on their end. I enjoy presenting the students with challenges that will not overwhelm them, but help them to grow and expand their depth of understanding of the material at hand.
Make learning fun and the possibilities are endless!
I have taught math at a 5th grade level for most of my teaching career. I have been able to adapt my style of teaching to different learning styles within the classroom and have an understanding of how to teach the newest math trends such as the common core math standards. Being that I have taught math for the last 8 years, I have also attended many math workshops through my district which allows me to constantly enhance my knowledge of the subject.
Physical science has always been a favorite of mine to teach. I love the lab experiments that correlate with the concepts in this area and find that it is easily applied to real life situations.
I have taught before common core was established and after it was established. I have knowledge of how to teach students to learn common core methods even after the older methods of teaching have already been embedded in their minds. It was a great transition from traditional methods to common core methods in the public school system and presented both teachers and students with great challenges. Being challenged, in my opinion, is an excellent way to gain knowledge and growth in a particular area. I am up to date on the current standards and will remain up to date as I am currently a teacher who practices these in my classroom everyday.
My major in college focused directly on Elementary Education. I have been teaching 4th and 5th grade levels of math and science, in particular, for the past 11 years.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
