Hello, my name is Mike, and I would like to introduce myself.

I am from Pittsburgh, married to my wife, Sylvia, and I have two children, Cilia and Roman. Cilia is 8 years old and nearly done with 2nd grade. Roman is almost 5 years old. I graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1996 with a Bachelor in English, and like many of my classmates and others with liberal arts degrees, I did not initially pursue a career endorsed by my education. I worked in the patent and mortgage industries for three years. Neither career path was fulfilling; however, I acquired important social, management, and critical thinking skills.

While negotiating a rather unhappy start to my career, I was stricken with a pre-mid-life crisis. After hiking for a weekend in the Allegheny Forest, I realized that my life was not going as planned. I started teaching computer networking and programming and enrolled in graduate school at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I taught for four years, and I achieved my Masters in English in 2004. I also worked in the proprietary school admissions industry for two years. Currently, I spend my days in the financial services industry where I'm the Operations Manager at a credit reporting agency.

I view the world, evaluate current events, enjoy music, and even examine my personal life through the study of literature and writing. Importantly, I believe that all of us enjoy learning more and can apply what we learn better if we relate classroom learning to other courses and to all of our unique interests, responsibilities, and facets of our personal lives.

You might think that my day job doesn't require much writing, but you would be surprised. I write both technical and creative prose every day: policies and procedures, proposals to IT, emails to chief-level executives. I proofread work that is submitted both to my Legal and IT departments. It's critical that my staff and I write clearly and concisely. Similarly, while my knowledge of James Joyce doesn't get me paid more in my current job, my analysis of Joyce has indeed helped me because analysis of literature employs critical thinking and creative problem solving skills. There's no question that my background in composition and literature has helped me be more successful working for a credit reporting agency. We just need to find out how we can apply to your life the skills and knowledge gained in composition and literature.

I am looking forward to meeting you, and I would be privileged to help you overcome any challenges you are facing.

Mike
