About Megan

I am a certified public accountant (CPA) and have been working for a Big 4 Firm for 3 years, where I have worked on clients in the government, private, and public sectors, in various industries. In my time at the firm, I have managed and developed a variety of staff with different strengths, weaknesses and learning styles to build successful teams.

My favorite part about my job is sharing my knowledge and experiences with staff personnel, it is very rewarding to see a face light up when they learn and begin to understand concepts, tasks and procedures. Additionally, as part of my job I serve as a resource to coworkers for new office software, and I have taught training sessions on how to use this software.

I am looking to be a tutor because I really enjoy sharing my professional knowledge with coworkers, however I would like to step outside the professional realm and work with students looking to begin their careers. I have had many different experiences in my undergraduate, graduate, and professional careers that I feel can be very valuable to students.

I can provide students with insight to professional accounting, the job application process, interview skills and resume building, as I have recently been through this process. Additionally, I have taken part in many recruiting events for our firm and understand the qualities firms are looking for in potential employees. I also serve as an advisor for University of Maryland accounting students to have career development conversations and answer any questions they may have.

I work extensively in Microsoft Excel and Word, it is a key skill required in my job, as I use Excel and Word to create my work products. I have experience manipulating large amounts of data, formatting, creating tables, etc.

I studied Business with a focus in accounting in my undergrad and in my graduate programs. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with BA in Accounting with honors in 2012. The next year I began my graduate program at University of Maryland, College Park with a Masters in Business Management - Accounting. In my Master's program I took a variety of courses such as Human Resource Management, Negotiations, Business Communications, Information Systems, and Internal Auditing. During my time in graduate school I also completed my CPA licensure exams. Currently, I am working in the accounting field where I have further developed my accounting and business knowledge.
