About Rafael

I'm a doctoral student in education who has experience working with high school and college students. I've worked extensively with young adults, tutoring students in math and physics, as well as teaching college courses in leadership. I received my BS in Mechanical Engineering from a highly selective undergraduate institution, and have since received my MS in Student Affairs in Higher Education--basically, I studied young adult learning.

I'm now a law and doctoral student at Penn State, enrolled in both Penn State Law and the College of Education. Although my official coursework in engineering ended a long time ago, I still enjoy doing math for fun (yes, some people do that!) and love working with students who want help. There's something about seeing a student learn things for themselves, and I think math is a universal language that can be understood by all.

Math has always come very intuitively to me, and my engineering background is a testament to that. I have taken courses in algebra, calculus, differential equations, probability, and statistics, as well as applied sciences courses that incorporate real-world application of these ideas.

Send me an email if you want to know more! I love talking to people about their educational goals, and would be happy to create a flexible schedule to get you learning what it is you want to know!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
