Pennsylvania State University (CED, Spanish Minor)
I am currently a senior at the Pennsylvania State University pursuing a bachelors degree in Community, Environment and Development with minors in Spanish and International Studies. I maintain good grades at college and I have been on the Dean's List for four semesters. Also during my time at the university I have been fortunate to study abroad, which allowed me to live in and travel through Europe for a semester and see the world through a new perspective. Having been a tutor as well as been tutored myself in some subjects during college, I understand the important role tutors can play in academic improvement as well as the moral support they can provide to help students achieve their personal goals.
Apart from enjoying the Spanish language, music, and culture, I have studied the language since my high-school years; but my use of the language improved the most while I lived and studied in Barcelona for a semester. During this time I was taking a full course load of five classes and three of them were taught completely in Spanish. Due to this, I greatly improved my ability to understand native speakers and write academic papers in Spanish. Also, as I lived with a host family during my time in Barcelona and they did not speak English, I used the language on a daily basis. I was also previously a Spanish tutor with my university where I received training and feedback on how to help the students improve their use of the language in intensive Spanish courses.
As well as tutoring in Spanish, I can also provide assistance with writing and proofreading in English. My studies are highly writing-intensive at my college, and because of this I can provide valuable feedback on how to formulate, organize, write, and proofread papers whether it is a simple essay or an in-depth academic paper.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve your personal and academic goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
