Hello! I am a graduate of Yale University (BA in music) and New York University (MFA in musical-theatre-writing). I am currently a lecturer in the Penn State English department.
I love to tutor and have tutoring experience in a wide range of areas: English, writing, SAT prep, history, and math. In addition, I've taught songwriting and piano lessons at several summer camps (Camp Arena Stage, Boston Children's Theatre, and Summer Sonatina International Piano Camp).
I'm organized, responsible, and enthusiastic, and I find it incredibly rewarding to work one-on-one with kids and teenagers to help them improve in different areas. I'm a firm believer that creativity makes learning infinitely easier (not to mention, more fun). I've put this theory into practice: e.g., throughout high school, I wrote songs to help study for tests, and I studied for AP US History by pasting construction paper diagrams and pictures all over the walls and ceiling of my bedroom so that I'd unconsciously absorb information. I love to come up with creative ways to teach and tutor.
My schedule is fairly flexible this year, and I'm looking to do as much tutoring as possible. Looking forward to hearing from you! Hello! My son was able to learn a lot from sessions with Sarah. She always gives something he is interested in. Also, she always finds things for him to improve on.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
