Hello! My name is Angel and I have a BS degree in Chemistry from The University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Mayagüez Campus. I am currently a PhD student in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology at Penn State. I was a teaching assistant at UPR for a General Chemistry lab course where I was in charge of 30 students, who all passed with good grades and were very satisfied with my teaching strategies. I was also an Organic Chemistry tutor for 3+ years to students not only from my campus, but from all over the island! All of them passed their respective courses with A/A+ or B/B+. Modifying my teaching strategies for each student's individual need is one of my priorities to ensure their success!
Additionally, I was also an Organic Chemistry tutor for 1 year at Penn State with excellent results for the students. I also worked as a teaching assistant for 1 year in an Enzyme Kinetics lab course, where I was in charge of 31 students and helped them throughout the course during office hours. Furthermore, I redesigned the lab course to ensure students were getting a more efficient learning experience. This included redesigning the lab manual so that topics and information were clearer. Feedback thus far has been unanimously positive! These experiences highlight that I am fully capable of tutoring and meeting students' needs, especially in both English and Spanish!
My success in tutoring stems from my ability to take complex topics and break them down into simpler concepts that make it easier for the students to understand and be able to solve work problems. I also ask students beforehand to let me know the topics they want to cover so I can prepare problem sets for them to practice these concepts and have success in any quiz or test they take.
Please contact me if you have any questions. I reply very quickly! I look forward to talking organic chemistry with you!
