Temple University, College of Education, Philadelphia (Middle Grades Education)
I am currently an undergraduate student at Temple University. I completed my degree in Middle Grades (4-8) Education, with a concentration in Math and Science, in the Fall of 2015. I have a passion for math, in particular helping people grasp concepts of math they do not understand. I know many people struggle with, or simply don't enjoy math; this is one of the reasons why I love to teach it. When somebody starts to comprehend a particular concept he or she was originally struggling with, everything changes! Math becomes fun and exciting, or at least doing homework isn't the worst part of the day!
My own experience with math is very similar to what I just described. In middle school, it was like a foreign language to me. I ended up getting a tutor and during our first session something clicked. My tutor explained a particular algebraic concept I did not understand to me in a different way that made sense. Since that experience, I enjoyed, and excelled in math. I have tutored and taught dozens of elementary to middle grades-aged students in fractions, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, etc. I have also tutored my peers in college classes from Basic Math to College Algebra to Calculus. I am certified to teach Math and Science in the state of Pennsylvania. I honestly love teaching and tutoring people of all ages, with any topic, especially Math!

Michael was great!! My twins were both participating and responding and they both felt much more confident with their Algebra 1 material when he left after just one session.
He really took his time and explained the concepts in a way that was very understandable. He was easy going and very relatable.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a degree in Middle Grades (4-8) Education from Temple University. Mathematics is one of my concentrations. Algebra I is introduced during the middle grades, and is one of the building blocks of math. I have tutored 25+ students in Algebra I. It is one of my favorite subjects to teach/tutor!
I hold a degree in Middle Grades (4-8) Education from Temple University. Mathematics is one of my concentrations. Algebra II is introduced towards the end of the middle grades. Understanding Algebra II is very important before moving on to higher-level math classes. I have tutored many students in Algebra II. In addition, I am certified to teach Math in the state of Pennsylvania.
I received an A in Calculus I at Temple University.

I have passed the Praxis I with above-average scores in all three sections (math, reading, writing). I have passed the Praxis II: PA Core Middle Grades. This test consists of three subtests. I had above-average scores in Math/Science and Pedagogy, and average/passing score in English/Social Studies. I had to take these tests as part of my teaching certification and know exactly what is needed to pass the test and pass the test with an above-average score.
I have taken many Math Education courses at Temple University that have included over 100 hours of fieldwork in real math classrooms. I have a lot of experience working with students who struggled with, but now excel with Pre-Algebraic concepts.
I have tutored over a dozen students on how to achieve the highest score possible on standardized tests, such as the SAT. I prepare students by not only helping them master the material, but also by teaching them effective test-taking strategies. This includes: how to eliminate answers, when/how to make an educated guess, and many more.
