I am certified to teach grades kindergarten through sixth, with eleven years of experience. Most recently, I spent five years teaching kindergarten, where I received training in emergent reading skills.
Prior to that experience, I taught in various schools due to relocating. In those schools, I taught first, second, and third grades. I truly enjoy being able to work individually with a student to help them grasp difficult material and find ways to make learning easy and fun for them. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Pennsylvania teaching certificate for kindergarten through sixth grade. I have a total of eleven years of experience teaching in elementary schools. My experience includes five years in kindergarten, three years in first grade and one year each in second and third grades. Beyond my undergraduate studies, I have completed 24 graduate level courses and have received training in LETRS (a study in language development pertaining to phonics instruction) and Math Their Way.
My most current experience was as a kindergarten teacher. I received training in LETRS, which studies language development and how it relates to how children learn letters and their sounds. I took several graduate courses on emergent reading and focused heavily on phonics and phonemic awareness in my classroom. I used a variety of materials and activities to help children learn to read.
