I started tutoring while in college at Florida State University. I studied actuarial science, which is math used to price insurance. The major is a combination of math, statistics, finance and economics. While in college I tutored students for business statistics, business calculus, algebra, trigonometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, GRE math and GMAT math. After graduation I taught high school math for a year and a half. Then I was a financial analyst for a year for an insurance company in Tallahassee, Florida.
As a tutor I taught individuals and groups at their pace while also teaching efficiently on time. I was prepared by knowing and reviewing the subject material beforehand. I provided review packets that I used to review the subjects. I provided sample questions and walked students through sample problems by explaining while I solved them. I then gave them similar problems to do while I reviewed their work.
I taught groups of 2-15 students for midterms and finals that covered half or all of the course material. I was able to cover midterms and individual exams in two hours usually, and comprehensive final exams in three to four hours. The subjects for group sessions were usually business statistics, trigonometry and business calculus.
