Hello! My name is Danica, and I am currently completing a dual Bachelor of Arts in dance education, choreography, and performance and music composition and performance at Muhlenberg College. I graduated from high school summa cum laude, with SAT scores in the ninety-ninth percentile and multiple AP exam grades of very-well-qualified and extremely-well-qualified. I am also a creative and analytical writer, performing and creative artist, and researcher. My favorite thing about education is its ability to uncover possibility, both personally and globally. I am currently building upon my previous tutoring experience by working in diverse settings as an online and in-person tutor of many ages and subjects, but particularly for students of music, writing, history, and mathematics.

I have extensive experience as a high school tutor through the National Honor Society. During my college time, I have completed fieldwork in urban education. I observed and assisted urban educators, while also creating and implementing lesson plans, studying education theory and pedagogy, and working one-on-one with students. I am also a volunteer with Muhlenberg College’s Office of Community Engagement, where I help facilitate educational programs for elementary and middle school students, and have volunteered with elementary students in Muhlenberg’s Community Dance Center. I am a dance educator for dance studios in the Lehigh Valley Area, and work with individuals from early childhood to adulthood. In addition to my education and tutoring experience, I am a full-time caregiver for my grandmother, who is in the advanced stages of frontotemporal dementia. I have developed a strong sense of organization, compassions, and interpersonal skills as a result. The student’s development and self-empowerment is first and foremost in all of my teaching experiences.

As an instructor, I encourage community development through personal growth and awareness, communication, and respect. I strive to create an environment of cultural relevancy, honesty, acceptance, and sharing, paired with frequent and clear feedback. This assures that students are both welcomed and positively challenged. I arrange lesson plans sequentially and according to developing concepts, and am constantly researching brain-compatible and new methods of pedagogy, including ways to involve all types of learners. I respond to student and parent feedback while constantly self-educating my practice. I believe very strongly in being a resource for my students while also encouraging student exploration and discovery. I’m happy to be able to share my passion for individual subjects and for education as a whole.

The majority of my tutoring experience has occurred in a writing environment, and I consider essay development to be one of my specialties. I encourage students to develop thesis, question paragraph relevance, and explore succinct and intention-driven communication methods. Students who I work with concentrate on language and ideas. This pursuit fuels communication, as opposed to communication being limited by quantitative structures of expression.

In terms of math qualifications, I scored a 780/800 on the math portion of the SAT, and received an A in honors Introduction to Calculus, Honors Trigonometry and Topics, Honors Algebra I and II, and Honors Geometry. I also received a 4/5 on AP Physics I: Algebra, which is an extremely math intensive course. I worked in a tutoring environment in National Honors Society, with subjects ranging from mathematics to English, social studies, sciences, and arts. My experiences as a dance education student, a studio dance instructor, and educational volunteer have provided me with the skills to work in an elementary school environment in addition to advanced levels.

In terms of music credentials, I am pursuing a dual bachelors in music and dance with a rigorous program of music performance, composition, and theory. My current music major GPA is a 4.0. I began my music training at an early age, singing competitive opera and taking piano lessons. I have over thirteen years experience in vocal/choral presentation and have been a music leader and cantor for six years. I am a flute player with experience of the workings of a concert band, pep band, and jazz band. I currently train in jazz piano and improvisation, am a member of a jazz improvisation ensemble and a big band ensemble, and self accompany my own vocal presentations. I can sight read and improvise on voice, piano, and flute, and have performed successfully in competitive auditions. I tested out of a written and aural (sight singing) based college level Music Theory 1, and received an A in Music Theory 2 and Music History 1. I also have been a volunteer liturgical piano accompanist, accompanist for college student recitals, and am currently learning dance accompaniment. Finally, I am in the process of founding an interdisciplinary music and dance on-campus company, dedicated to creating and performing music and dance collaborative pieces.

I am capable of tutoring in the majority of elementary, middle school, and high school courses, in addition to select entry-level college courses. I have experience in the upper-intermediate level of French, am extremely proficient with writing, literature, dance, and music. I am extremely responsive and flexible, and my student-centered approach assures that the student receives the resources to accomplish their goals. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. Thank you!
