About Fred

Hello! My name's Fred. I'm a private drum instructor and tutor. I have a bachelors of science in Youth Ministry from Valley Forge Christian College and work in the Reading School District for the Berks County Intermediate Unit as a substitute teacher's assistant. My goal is to see students succeed in all that they do, in both the classroom, and apart from it.

For prospective drum students / parents, the next two paragraphs are for you. For students in need of tutoring / parents, skip down to the third paragraph.

I'm glad to see your interest in becoming a drummer or helping someone else become a future drummer. I've been playing drums ever since I was a little kid, 20 years ago, and by the time I was finished with high school, drumming had become more than just a fun hobby to me. It turned into a passion. I spent time touring all across America with bands throughout my time in college and after, even having the privilege of performing outside of the US. When I started touring, kids would come up to me asking if I would teach them how to play, and many times, I would invite them up on stage to play on my kit.

Now, as a private drum instructor and substitute teacher within the Reading, PA school districts, I'm dedicating my time to helping as many kids and even adults become musicians, assisting them in both excelling and having fun with drumming and music overall. My three goals with lessons are to make them 1. Affordable, 2. Fun, and 3. Effective. In order to do this, I always put the student first, and form a different lesson plan for each individual student, instead of having a set plan for all students. I realize that every person is an individual, and each learns best in a different way. I'd be honored to be your drum instructor.

For students in need of tutoring, my goal is to get you on the right track to not only keep up with your classmates, but excel and succeed in your studies. I offer tutoring in elementary school and middle school math, along with Algebra 1. I aim to make learning both fun and worthwhile. School can be stressful, especially if you feel as if you've fallen behind (Believe me, I've been there. I know how it is.) My goal is to help you gain the knowledge necessary to be confident in your studies. I'd be honored to be your tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Hi! I really enjoy helping people out with math. Math had always been my favorite subject in school, and I find it to be the most used subject in our daily lives, whether in terms of budgeting, figuring out how many of something to make, etc.

I'm currently a substitute assistant teacher with the Berks County Intermediate Unit, and have a Bachelors degree in Youth Ministry from Valley Forge Christian College. The experience I have working with different age groups, added to my love of math and teaching can assure you that I have both the qualifications and desire to help get your student on the right track in Algebra 1.

Drums

I've been playing drums for the past 20 years. In that time, I started out playing in my high school's marching band, concert band, and jazz band, while taking private lessons. After graduating, I performed in my university's wind ensemble and started college as a Music Performance major, with drums as my primary instrument and piano as my secondary. During and after my time in high school and university, I performed professionally for various jazz, blues, and rock groups, and have toured around the country and internationally.

As a teacher, I've been a drum instructor privately since 2009, and have had over 30 drum students since then, seeing a vast majority of them become skilled in the instrument. I'm also a substitute assistant teacher with the Berks County Intermediate Unit, and have a Bachelor's degree in Youth Ministry from Valley Forge Christian College. I'm comfortable teaching students of all age groups, from elementary school up through adult.

Elementary Math

As a current substitute assistant teacher with the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU), it is one of my duties to help students who need help with homework during after-school programs at elementary schools in the Reading School District. Most often, the subject they need help with is math, which has always been my strongest subject. The experience I have working for the BCIU, as well as with being a private music instructor and with having a bachelor's degree in youth ministry, gives me the qualifications necessary to make sure I can help students with mathematics in a way that is relevant to them. It is my goal to see students succeed in the classroom, while having fun learning and understanding math.

Piano

I am currently a piano instructor. I started teaching piano about a year ago. I currently have several piano students, and teach beginners of all ages.

Excellent tutor!

Fred met with my son to help with 6th grade math. I can not believe how amazing he was with just one tutor session! My son immediately clicked with Fred. He was able to help teach and reach my son's issues and resolve them with only one session. All I can say after 4 weeks since my sons tutor session he has been doing great with math with no problems. Thank you Fred for all the time and understand
