Kutztown University (Mathematics)
I am a graduate of Kutztown University, earning my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2011. Mathematics has been an area of interest for me my entire life, and I love being able to help others gain a better understanding of the various areas that involve the use of math. I like to find out my students' strengths and weaknesses in the particular subject, then use examples to help bring their aptitude in that area full circle.
I have tutored all areas, from Pre-Algebra up to and including Calculus. I thoroughly enjoy this area of learning and will work with the student to maximize their learning ability. I am flexible and will work with your family to meet time requirements and/or schedule changes. I am a graduate of Kutztown University, earning my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2011. Takes time to explain in an easier way. Really good tutor for upcoming test like ASVAB or SAT's. Tom helped me improve my ASVAB knowledge and I would recommend him to anyone who has math issues or is doing poorly in any class.
Tom truly helped to review and explain many Prealgebra concepts to my son. The sessions went very smoothly and my son, who claims to dislike math, never once complained about giving up a summer afternoon.
Tom was very patient with my son. He was able to teach him in a way he could understand. My son commented that Tom made things easy to understand.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I can guide my students through the essentials, including factorization, fraction operations, exponents, order of operations, and linear equations.
I am proficient in the subject areas included in the GED Math portion, including geometry, area of triangles, circles, and cylinders, and angles, among others. I can help study the types of answers generally given and the types of word problems to understand what the problem is asking. I can also help with general studies of the science, social studies, and language arts.
I have taken a practice Praxis exam to learn more about the type of questions included. I learned that for all three subject areas, the type of questions are similar in structure to the type used on the SAT exams. I have extensive experience tutoring students for the SAT exams in Reading, Writing, and Math. Through my own college experiences with writing research papers and testing on book subject matter, I am able to pass my knowledge of reading comprehension and grammar to the students I tutor. I am particularly qualified to tutor for the Math section of any exam, drawing from the Bachelor's degree in Math that I earned from Kutztown University.
