I am an education professional with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Penn State Berks. I like to make learning fun but relevant to your child's needs. My commitment to the student is that the student should:
1. Enjoy the learning process

3. Expand their horizons and quest for knowledge
4. Pass the course

Students learn at their own pace. I am very patient and work with each student to identify how they learn best. I evaluate each child and tailor my tutoring techniques to produce the highest results. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I took SPLED 400 and SPLED 401 which were special education classes at Penn State Berks in the Fall Semester in 2011. These classes provided training in foundational skills for working with students with special needs in general education classrooms. I’ve studied the characteristics of Autism and ADHD and received training for monitoring student progress and making instructional decisions, as well as in using principles of applied behavior analysis for building positive behaviors. Additionally I have hands on experience. I homeschooled a child who has a high functioning autistic spectrum disorder and ADHD from 1/08 through 6/11, when he was mainstreamed into a regular classroom. I was very patient with the emotional issues he faced, especially when he felt frustrated over the efforts needed to complete his assignments and I tried different approaches to help him understand. I was able to help him complete 2nd grade through 5th grade and today he is on the honor roll at the school he now attends.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from PENN STATE BERKS and graduated with high distinction. During that period I spent a significant amount of time in the Reading School System student teaching at Amanda Stoudt Elementary in the first grade, West Wyomissing Elementary in the second grade, and Northwest Elementary in the third grade classrooms where I obtained great knowledge from my mentor teachers and was able to develop my own technique of teaching as well.

Phonics

I have experience teaching 1st grade curriculum, especially phonics at Amanda Stoudt Elementary School. I have taught English language learners and learning support students who are mainstreamed into the classroom, and have made accommodations to many different learning styles. I also organized a “breakfast club” for morning tutoring before class begins, where I taught children phonemes (letter sounds), digraphs, and trigraphs (blends) with great success, as well as phonics and word recognition.

Praxis

I've taken the Praxis I exams and passed them all first try.

Reading

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education and teach all subjects, but my favorites are Reading and Math. I teach in my home or your home and have great references. My technique involves creating lessons which come from the common core standards and combining them with your child's interest. This helps to keep them involved. I also look to see how your child learns (visual, writing, with movement, etc.) and incorporate that into the lesson itself.

Special Needs

I took SPLED 400 and SPLED 401 which were special education classes at Penn State Berks in the Fall Semester in 2011. Writing

Bachelors Degree in Kindergarten and Elementary Education - graduated with "Distinction" from Penn State Berks in 2013. I had to write several essays each week and have become quite proficient in my writing and computing skills.
