Hi, my name is Cindy, and I am very interested in tutoring your child. I have been employed by university in the library for over 20 years. Along with my library duties, I also adjunct teach a first year writing class.
While working at the college, I earned my master's degree in both business leadership and education. I have worked tutoring children in both reading and language arts for over five years. My teaching philosophy is a simple one: I believe in enthusiasm. If we teach literacy and other subjects with passion and enthusiasm, our students will also be enthused as well.
I also believe in teaching with a variety of activities tailored for various intelligences. Some language arts activities I like to use are as follows: picture prompts, pair shares, RAFT, and mnemonics, just to name a few.
I also like to read aloud to my students. I think that not only should the student read and write, but it is important that my students see me read and write as well. I also use a lot of comprehension strategies which include building background knowledge. I believe this is essential for student comprehension. Last but not least, I believe in practice, practice, practice. This helps my students to excel in the curriculum I teach. Hi, my name is Cindy, and I am very interested in tutoring your child. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I use a variety of effective teaching procedures, materials/media, and assessments appropriate for learners. I use accommodations for individual differences and different learning styles.
I like to align all instructional material to state benchmarks, rubrics, and assessments.
My qualifications for teaching K-6 are that I hold a Master of Education degree and have tutored for the past few years in language arts, social studies, and writing. I currently teach a first year college writing class with a concentration on Immigration.
I believe I am the right candidate to help your student be proficient in phonics. I hold a master of education degree from Cabrini College and have tutored for the past few years in phonetics, language arts, reading and writing. I have a vast knowledge of techniques to use when working with your child. Some of the techniques I use are phonics through spelling, teaching my students to sound out the letters. I also teach my students phonetic skills by inserting phonics instruction in text reading. I also like to use the technique of my students examining letter sound relations.
I also believe that, regular phonics instruction is a valuable and an essential part of a effective classroom reading program. It is important to identify the goals of phonics instruction and provide these goals to our students making sure that they know how to apply that knowledge in their reading and writing.
