I have worked at Montgomery County Community College as a professional tutor for the past five years, helping students in the areas of Math, Chemistry, Biology, and Music. I am very proud of the academic achievements of my students, many of whom have gone on to stand out at institutions such as Villanova, University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson, Temple and Berkley. Although I have experience as a high school teacher, I prefer tutoring for many reasons, such as the one-on-one interaction, the fact that students come to me because they want to, not because they have to, and because the student and I can mutually set goals that are realistic. Tutoring, for me, is much more than a profession—it is my passion.
My philosophy on tutoring is “meet the student where (s)he is.” I recognize that every student is unique, with different strengths and weaknesses, and different learning styles. I am constantly refining my tutoring methodology and discovering different and interesting ways to communicate concepts and reinforce learning. To this end, I am a student of the tutoring process, always working to perfect my craft.
What sets me apart from other tutors is my level of professionalism coupled with my easy going, relaxed approach. My professionalism stems from years of experience along with attending Montgomery County Community College's Tutor Training annually to ensure that I am up to date on all of the latest tutoring strategies. And learning should be enjoyable and interesting. I strive to develop a warm, non-judgmental rapport with the student. The most effective learning occurs when the student is fully engaged, being both relaxed and focused. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been tutoring nursing students at Montgomery County Community College for over 5 years. Coaching nurses in both writing research papers and test preparation are my specialties.
I have helped many nursing students prepare for--and pass the NCLEX. I advocate intense preparation with NCLEX practice material with comprehensive analysis of practice questions.
