Hello! My name is Andrew (they/them pronouns), and I’m a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University having just finished my Masters in Materials Science and Engineering, as well as a graduate of Oberlin College and Conservatory with majors in Flute Performance, Materials Physics, and Chemistry. I’ve had many years in tutoring chemistry, both as a laboratory teaching assistant and as a 1-on-1 tutor for AP and college-level chemistry. Most notably I was the AP Chemistry residential teaching assistant for Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development summer course. I also was an in-class group tutor for Oberlin’s introductory Electricity and Magnetism course.

My teaching relies heavily on reflection and metacognition: identifying what students know, and more importantly what they don't know, and building pathways to meet student-made goals, whether those are grades and test scores or just content mastery and confidence. I also strive to improve the inclusion and comfort of LGBTQ+ students in STEM fields, something which the hard sciences notoriously lack. I feel that success in a field is incredibly helpful to improve one's sense of belonging.

I've been playing flute for 14 years and spent 5 years studying flute with Alexa Still at Oberlin Conservatory. I've taught number of students, both in private lessons and group settings ranging from beginners to advanced players.

Feel free to reach out for a free consultation to talk over your goals! My schedule is quite flexible and I’m very responsive.
