Bio

Hi! I'm Leslie and I've been helping students of all ages achieve their goals for over twenty years now, both as a public school teacher and a 1:1 tutor. I genuinely enjoy helping my students overcome their barriers and gain confidence, whether we're working on Language Arts and English assignments or we're doing SAT prep. I'm flexible, funny and extremely patient, and I always take the time to get to know my students so that I can individualize their sessions and really focus on what they need from me as a tutor. I've spent my teaching career in inclusive classrooms, and I enjoy helping students who learn differently, because I'm not just a teacher, I'm also mom to three amazing teenagers, two of whom are autistic, and one who has significant ADHD. As an educator and a parent, I understand what a difference the right support and challenges make for students and I know that presuming competence is the first step to building the confidence that students needs to reach beyond what they think they can do.

Aside from my many years of tutoring experience, I have an English degree and a teaching certificate. I've taught sixth grade ELA and eighth grade English, successfully working with students with diverse needs and abilities, and I have extensive experience providing differentiated instruction and support to students with special needs. I've helped students with general English and Literature skills, and I've worked with them on SAT prep, reading and writing skills, college essay preparation, and proofreading. I've also implemented home school programs and assisted students with memorization, public speaking and other assignment-specific projects. I enjoy helping my students to expand on what they think they can do, and I'm very good at explaining and breaking down tasks and assignments so that they're more manageable and less overwhelming for my students.

Contact me and let's talk about I can help you or your child to be a more confident, engaged and successful student! I'm looking forward

I'm certified to teach English, and I have extensive experience team teaching and working with Special Education Teachers to adjust my teaching style and modify or adapt assignments to better support students with ADHD. Not only do I enjoy working with students who learn differently, I'm the parent of three teenagers with autism and ADHD. I understand what a difference the right support and positive learning experiences can make for our kids and I work hard to ensure that my students get both of those things.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

As a certified English teacher, I regularly worked with Special Education teachers to provide differentiated instruction, accommodations and modifications for autistic students. I have extensive experience tutoring and implementing programming for autistic students as well. Having two autistic teenagers of my own means that I'm always learning everything I can about autism and autism supports and the importance of presuming an individual's competence. I've spent the last eighteen years learning how to best support, encourage, and integrate autistic kids in such a way that they comfortably develop their confidence and independence to experience increased academic and social success. I know what a difference the right tutor can make, not just academically, but in every part of an autistic student's life.
