About Tamina

I recently gained a Master's in Elementary and Special Education, and I absolutely love teaching. I have been teaching a variety of subjects for almost 20 years, in diverse settings that include after-school programs and summer workshops. It is a great treat to be able to work individually with students, as it means that learning can be truly personalized to meet the needs, and take into account the learning style, of that individual. I enjoy learning, and there are very few subjects that do not interest me. That being said, I love teaching mathematics and writing. I enjoy helping students to better express their ideas in writing, and I enjoy finding different ways to help students make sense of mathematical ideas.

Due to the shift in current curriculum, especially within mathematics, I have found that many parents are at a loss to help their children with their schoolwork. This is due to the fact that new approaches to solving math problems are not what we were taught as children. Keeping this in mind, I think it is important to provide materials not just for the students, but also for parents, so that they can better understand what their child needs to do in order to succeed.

I am certified to teach Math to students in grades PK-4. In addition to having taught mathematics to students in grades K-4, I have worked individually and with small groups in providing extra support to students who are struggling with concepts or math fact retention.

Having been trained to provide reading instruction up to grade 4, and specialized instruction up to grade 8, I enjoy sharing and encouraging a love of reading with all students. This includes helping to learn the basic building blocks of reading, as well as introducing and training students to use successful approaches to reading comprehension.

I am have taught, and I understand, common core curriculum and standards for learning.

Please contact me with questions and to learn more about how I can help provide your student with an extra boost this school year.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I received a Master's in Elementary Education in December of 2015. As part of my studies, I had to show knowledge and understanding of PA Common Core standards and concepts. This is especially relevant for mathematics curriculum, as it is substantially different from previous approaches.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am PA certified to teach PK-4 Elementary Education. I am also PA certified to teach PK-8 Special Education, which can translate to mean that I am able to teach up to 6th-grade level subjects. I have worked as a substitute for 3 middle school classrooms multiple times in the past year, as well, and I understand and can confidently instruct on all core subjects for K-6th graders.
