Allegheny College (International Studie)
Univ. of Pitt School of Law (Enrolled)
Hello! I am a current J.D. candidate at the University of Pittsburgh and am graduating in the spring. I am planning to pursue a career in post-secondary education rather than the practice of law - I enjoy teaching far more than researching regulations! I have experience tutoring students in American history and politics, but I have a wide variety of subject-matter competence ranging from writing/editing, politics/economics, history/civics, Spanish language/culture, and of course American law and legal system.
I also have personal experience with certain types of special needs, such as ADD/ADHD, and can develop strategies to accommodate some of the difficulties that come with these issues. I am flexible, patient, and my greatest desire is to see my students improve. I am committed to providing satisfactory results, and developing a respectful rapport with each student in order to build confidence and promote success.
In undergrad I minored in Spanish, and spent a full semester studying abroad in Spain. I also wrote an entire chapter of my undergraduate thesis in Spanish and on Spanish culture and politics. I have extensive experience speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish. I can assist in grammar, composition, vocabulary, and even improving the spoken accent.
My strongest skill is writing, and am a constant and voracious reader. I am familiar with a wide variety of literature across genres and cultures and am very experienced in analyzing thematic material. As a law student, profession writing is my most important skill, and so I am able to help students develop writing skills and styles that will translate directly into real-world needs in the job market. I have an excellent eye for proofreading and editing as well. In sum, I am able to tutor on literature, poetry, creative AND professional writing, grammar, as well as many other related topics.
As a law student, and having studied international politics in undergrad, I have extensive experience in almost all areas of political science including familiarity with related topics in economics. American government/law, the regulatory state/administrative agencies, international law/human rights, comparative politics, political philosophy/theory, and related topics in history are all subjects I have extensive knowledge of and experience with. I can also assist students considering applying to law school with LSAT preparation, and admitted students with preparing for the first year of law school. (It is widely considered to be the most grueling year, and having a head start would be absolutely invaluable in an environment where all grades are competitive between students.)
If you or your student has any need in writing, reading, political science, Spanish, or any related subject, please contact me, I would love to help! I am especially open to working with individuals with learning difficulties as I have a strong sense of empathy, lots of patience, and a desire to help people improve.
If you or your student are considering law school, I HIGHLY recommend contacting me regarding preparatory tutoring; since performance during the first year of law school is by far the most important for employers, starting out a step ahead of one's classmates will significantly improve employment prospects both during and following law school.
