About Caitlyn

I loved getting to teach Communication college students during my graduate program, and developed a reputation with my students as a mentor and empowering educator, able to clarify even the most abstract or complex information. Communication and writing skills are more critical than ever to the success of college and university students, yet young adults are feeling increasingly unprepared for the demands for these skills in higher education. The knowledge I can provide will not only help you ace those subjects, but apply what you learn to every other aspect of your education, career, and life. And the best part, for me, is that moment when my students begin thinking critically and seeing the world in ways that they have never been challenged to do before.

I specialize in teaching writing, research, and topics in communication studies and social sciences. Come to me for coaching in Essays, Communication, Communication Studies, Persuasion, Interpersonal Skills, Public Speaking, Presentations, Literary Analysis, SAT Writing, GRE Prep, Application Essays, Rhetoric, Rhetorical Analysis, Leadership,

I am also experienced in teaching critical thinking, culture, and citizenship, to help raise your awareness of today's social issues and prep you for advocacy and civic responsibility in this dynamic social climate.

It is best to schedule appointments with me in advance. I am available for in-person tutoring around the Pittsburgh area, and offer flexible online tutoring through video conferencing software.

My base rate is $25/hour, with negotiable prices for package deals. I am happy to offer needs-based discounts to give everyone access to the support needed to excel in their educations and careers; Simply contact me for sliding-scale options.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

I am an independent consultant in leadership development, which is closely tied to, and often encompasses, career counseling. I have conducted a job search skills workshop for Goodwill of North Texas, volunteered as a graduate liaison with the undergraduate association of future professionals within my university department, worked for a communication consultant who specialized in talent development and leadership, and am currently in negotiations with a Pittsburgh-based online university to join their team as a career services advisor for graduating students.

College Counseling

Having completed a postgraduate degree in a tier-1 research institution, as well as mentored my own students towards their undergraduate success, I have become intimately acquainted with the demands colleges and Universities expect of their students. I can--and have--help coach struggling students towards improving their grades, as well as offer guidance to ambitious students concerning their major interests and school options. I have taught non-traditional students, students from diverse cultures, and students who have come from problematic or difficult backgrounds, and on several recorded cases, have helped students who have contemplated dropping out, changing majors, or requested incompletes, towards successfully completing their programs.

Public Speaking

I taught communication at the University of North Texas for two years. A major facet of that curriculum included Public Speaking, so I have instructed on overall technique as well as been responsible for evaluating individual public speaking assignments and providing feedback. Additionally, I specialize in communication consulting that includes public speaking coaching for adults and young professionals, I have worked closely as an assistant to a professional motivational and talent development speaker, and am myself accomplished at public address.
