About Maggie

I have a passion for learning and want to share that passion with others. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Communication and a Master's Degree in International Affairs. I am working towards my PhD in Clinical Psychology with the goal of working with children and their families to overcome challenges. Working as a tutor provides me an opportunity to help individuals deal with educational and organizational challenges.

I believe that everyone has the potential to learn, you just need to find the right approach. I work with students to find that connection which helps me to determine which approaches to learning will work for them. Once we have an approach, students and I make adjustments to make make sure that we are continually making progress.

I have experience as a technical writer and a proposal writer. In both of these positions, I was required to proofread documents and make the appropriate corrections before submitting them to the client. I also worked as an English tutor at a community college in both the classroom and one-on-one settings.

My study skills helped me to graduate high school and college with honors. I help students learn a variety of organizational and study skills available to help them better manage their time and their studies. As they learn these skills, we focus on the ones the work for them and let go of the ones that don't. The emphasis for the students is learning what works for them.

I have over 15 years of experience working with Microsoft Word. My experience goes from creating a simple document to creating a detailed document containing an updatable Table of Content, tables, and links to other documents.

Both of my sons have ADHD. In order to better help them deal with their challenges, I have gone back to school to get my PhD in Clinical Psychology. In my studies, I have focused on the different methodologies used to assist individuals with this diagnosis to focus on their strengths deal with their challenges. I have learned from my sons that just because two individuals have the same diagnosis, they do not necessarily have the same strengths and challenges. I have first hand experience providing this training on a daily basis. I also understand the struggle of whether or not to include medication as part of the treatment regimen. This knowledge helps me to be more effective working with these individuals and their families.

My goal as a tutor and teacher is to provide the tools and support necessary to help my students be successful at whatever goals they are working towards. I work closely not only the student but with everyone on their support team. I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule which allows me to accommodate others' busy schedules. Please contact me to further discuss your needs and when we can meet.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am the parent of two boys diagnosed with ADHD. Over the years, I have worked closely with therapists, doctors and school professionals to ensure that not only my boys but I know what to do to help them be successful. I have added to this experience by pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Throughout the program, I have focused on research and information related to all aspects of ADHD. Both my experience and education make me well suited to tutor individuals diagnosed with ADHD and their support team.

Fitness

I have been working out for over 25 years. During that time, I've done everything from fitness classes, free weights, and machines. I have also become a certified fitness instructor and teach the following classes: body works, boot camp, aquafit, and cycling. I will work with individuals to find the workout and eating habits that work best for them.

Proofreading

Over 20 years of proofreading and editing experience. I have worked on multiple types of documents including academic papers, grants, proposals, and various business documents.

Study Skills

Through the use of strong study habits and organizational skills, I have completed my Bachelors and Masters degrees with honors. I will work closely with individuals to teach them the different studying strategies and help them identify which ones will work for them. I believe that anyone can learn to study effectively if they are given the correct tools. I will work with individuals to ensure they have these tools and know how to use them.

The most knowledgeable and experienced tutor for writing — Maggie's communication and grammar skills are unquestionable. Her rich knowledge and experience allow her to show various ways phrases and sentences could be expressed and why they are correct. I am especially grateful about this ability because I was becoming confused by different tutors' grammar styles. Maggie also makes sure that your original messages are delivered clearly and do not become di ...
