As an experienced, certified teacher for students in elementary through graduate school, I work to stimulate a student's learning and interests. I have taught for 30 years in public and private schools as well as in public and private colleges. One of my interesting tasks was teaching Chinese students English while I lived in Taiwan. I have taught business persons English in Venezuela, Korea and Mexico, and at the University of Pittsburgh, I taught business writing. While in the Peace Corps, I taught English to engineers and engineering students. I assist students in developing a strong sense of self-worth.
I feel that questions are often the key to a student's confusion. I encourage them to ask questions even though the student may feel the question is silly or "dumb." I don't waste a student's valuable time. I keep my students on track. Once the lesson is complete, we can talk casually a bit if the student wishes. I have taught here and in other countries and bring my experiences to bare when working with each student. I teach toward general student needs and am not qualified to handle those with special needs.

We LOVE Ms. Lois, she is truly amazing and I was blessed to find her to tutor my 6 year old son. Ms. Lois helped identify ways to encourage my son to be enthusiastic about learning. I am happy to share how wonderful Ms. Lois is and I would refer her to any parent looking for a tutor.
I am an amateur archaeologist. I have taken some college courses but best is that I have worked in the field in Spain and in the US with certified government archaeologist, and I trained my high school students so that they were accepted as volunteer archaeologists. We worked side by side with those state archaeologists, the Tryon Palace group and for the city as a school project. In Venezuela, I trained another group and we uncovered Karib indian pottery segments which were identified in Caracas State Museum by the resident archaeologist. They are the Indians that gave the name to the Caribbean Sea.
I hold a full valid license for grades K-8 from the state of NC.
I am experienced and have taken and passed a qualifying ESL/ESOL exam for certification.

I am a certified teacher in PA.
I have written two grammar texts that have been used by foreign students and American students. Formal grammar is not discussed much in today's schools so to go in depth takes time as well as desire.
I hold a Master's degree in Reading from Cardinal Stritch University where many courses stressed elements of phonics. I taught a phonics course at Craven Community College for 5 years teaching the new reading aides. I have written a phonics reading series especially for Chinese children.
I have just taken Praxis II 5511 and 5543 for special needs certification and am being updated on the NC certificate. I have also taken and passed Praxis tests for ESL and School Administration as well as reading.
I hold an MA in reading.
I have taken and passed the Praxis tests 5543 and 5511 for special needs students.
I have directed a study skills program in many schools, as it is part of the curriculum. I organized the program which trained the teachers. I have tutored students in their study skills and test taking skills while directing and teaching in private schools as well. As supervisor of student teachers in 2 colleges, I aided the student teacher in incorporating ways to always introduce or/and reinforce the specific study skills needed to master the lesson.
