About John

I am currently a theology teacher at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School. I try to make my classes engaging, challenging, and thought provoking. I have my M.A. in theology/religious studies but I also studied philosophy and anthropology for my B.A. I think that my wide background is useful in relating to students on an everyday level, while at the same time I possess the necessary knowledge in my field. I am published in 2 journals and have presented at several conferences. I

I have traveled extensively through Europe, including studying for a semester in Rome and a study tour in Turkey. I have been on archaeological digs, missionary trips to Camden, Haiti, and Peru. I was an active athlete in college and continue to enjoy playing sports like tennis and basketball. My tutoring methods would consist of reading difficult yet accessible material related to our topic, and discussing and writing them.

My experience in reading, writing and academia provides me a background that I can share with students who want to better their critical thinking and writing skills. If you have any further questions or concerns about a particular project, class, or subject that I could help with please send me a message.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a B.A. from Saint Vincent College in Anthropology, and I won the highest award in my major while attending school there.

I also was president of the anthropology club at SVC, and I have traveled extensively to various cultures.

I have my M.A. in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton. I currently teach engaging and challenging courses at a college prep high school. I am the founding leader of the philosophers/theologians club. I have also written and defended a thesis in this field and have published as well.

Sociology

I have a B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology from Saint Vincent College. My studies there focused on the intersection of religion and culture. I have studied various topics in this field while pursuing my B.A. and in my current role as religious studies teacher.

Tennis

I have been a tennis player since I was in high school, where I still hold the record for the most wins in a single season. I was the number one player at my high school and in the division III school which I attended.
