About Anthony

Math is like a game of understanding. For those of us who possess a strong foundation in conceptual understanding and procedural fluency, studying and solving math problems can be an incredibly rewarding experience that allows us to grow our minds and ultimately see the world in a different light. For the rest of us, math is a set of empty rules and complicated equations that seldom do anything but cause us frustration.

As someone who has studied math for most of my life, I understand firsthand that learning math is full of challenges. Fortunately, with the right teacher, these challenges are only mere speed bumps on the road to success. In my 6+ years as a high school math teacher, I have a proven track record of driving the academic success of my students.

My philosophy is simple. First, I always meet my students where they are at. As I work with students, I quickly learn their areas of strength as well as opportunities for growth. Fully understanding the prior knowledge of my students allows me to create individualized learning plans to meet the specific needs of each student. As a result my learning plan and expert instruction, a student who previously struggled understanding math will begin to experience academic success and gain confidence.

I will never claim to make learning math "easy." This would indicate that we are not challenging ourselves, and a goal should not be pursued if it does not allow us to reach our potential. However, with a combination of hard work and patience we can all learn to think like mathematicians!

As a certified high school math teacher with 6+ years of teaching experience, I specialize in tutoring all topics of math -- ranging form Pre-Algebra to high school Algebra to college level Calculus and Probability. Whether you just need to get caught up in class or you have a big test to take such as the GRE, SAT, ACT, GED, or Keystone Exam, I will apply my professional expertise to provide instruction that meets your needs!

I am generally available for tutoring from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. during weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. I am centrally located in the city of Pittsburgh, so I have no problem traveling to meet students at their homes or convenient public locations.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Discrete Math

I graduated from Duquesne University with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Math Education, during which time I took a course in Discrete Mathematics and earned an A. (Academic Transcript available upon request.)

I previously worked as a Math Tutor for Duquesne University, and during this time, I tutored many students in Discrete Math.

SAT Math

For the last 9 years I have worked as a high school math teacher and and college math tutor. During this time, I have extensive experience helping many students prep for the SAT Math test. Unlike most SAT Prep teachers, I also have experience teaching all levels of math, making me more qualified to connect concepts from the SAT Math test to concepts that students have previously learned in class. So whether you have a couple weeks before the big test, or an entire season to prepare, I will provide the expert tutoring that you need!

Trigonometry

For the last 9 years I have worked as a high school math teacher and tutor. During this time, I have consistently helped students improve their Trigonometry skills. So whether you just need a quick refresher to get caught up in your class or if you are missing an entire course of Trigonometry, I will provide expert tutoring to get you there!

He really took the time to explain the behind the equations concepts and clearly explained to me how some equations are interlinked based on calculus and algebraic principles.
