Hi, I'm Cam! I have had quite a bit of writing experience over the years, and I'm ready to share what I've learned. I graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with a Bachelors of Science in Marine Vertebrate Biology and a minor in Writing and Rhetoric, as well as a Masters in Marine Conservation and Policy (3.7 GPA). Thanks to my schooling I have written argumentative essays, research papers, scientific articles, personal essays, op-eds, cover letters, theatrical plays, and research papers. I scored straight As in all of my writing courses, and scored Above Average on both the SAT and GRE. All my tutoring experience has been unofficial, through volunteering in the Latin Club or by just helping my own friends/classmates. Even if I hadn't taken that course, I've been able to help them create outlines with solid structures and convincing points for their arguments or a research paper with clear transitions that help the logic flow.
Before every session, I would like to discuss what the goal is and what might be the best method to achieve it. I am able to provide constructive criticism without specifically telling them what to write, so the writer can build up their own skills. Also, I make sure to always highlight the good parts of an essay to boost the writer's confidence. I actively provide samples with my explanations to make the points clear. Additionally, I can bring exercises to focus on practice specific skills, such as thesis writing, proper grammar, or identifying literary elements. Although I have mostly worked at the undergraduate and graduate college levels, I am adept enough to help grades 6+. My goal is to help others learn how to critique their own work with the clarity of a third-person perspective so they do not get tangled in the frustrating emotions of writing. In my opinion, no one is a bad writer, just an inexperienced one; let me help you learn!
