Currently a PhD student in biomedical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, I have 10 years of tutoring and teaching experience working with all ages from pre-k through college in math, science, and engineering. My primary area of focus for teaching is math and physics. Beginning in high school, I worked as a tutor for elementary, middle, and early high school students in math and reading. Earning a 35 on the ACT, I enrolled at the University of Delaware and graduated with a 3.9 in biomedical engineering with honors.
During my undergraduate career, I continued private tutoring with college students and specialized in math, physics, and chemistry. Additionally, I worked as a drop-in tutor for university students. In this position, I worked open shifts during which groups of students could attend and request tutoring from any of the subjects I specialized in. With this experience, I learned how to develop lessons and practice problems for a wide variety of subjects. Earning high praise from my students, I worked closely with the academic center to refine our drop-in tutoring program and train new tutors. Alongside my tutoring, I worked as a teaching assistant for math, engineering, and physics focused classes during my undergraduate and graduate studies. I taught several lectures, prepared lesson materials, and held office hours in both in-person and remote settings.
Passionate about teaching, I have gained experience working with students of all ages in both the classroom and one-on-one setting. Further I have gained experience working in a virtual setting as both a tutor and student, which has allowed me to understand the challenges and opportunities presented when learning in a virtual setting. I am ready to work with you to understand how you learn best. My past students have praised my ability to help them learn not only how to solve a problem but how to think about it. I am happy to meet for a brief consultation to see if we would be a good fit!
