Hello, thanks for reading about me! After living in the California desert for five years, it's great to be back in Pennsylvania. During those five years however, I had a wonderful opportunity to teach 7-8 grade Language Arts both at the intensive and higher levels. While living in CA I obtained my master's degree in Reading/Language Arts graduating Summa Cum Laude and my English as a Second Language K-12 credential. Gaining that education made me understand the intricacies of reading, thereby enabling me to expand my repertoire and help my students comprehension and writing levels rise at a much quicker pace. My teaching credentials include Reading Specialist K-12, English 7-12, and English as a Second Language.
Altogether, I have taught Reading, English and Test Prep. courses in secondary schools for nine years; yet, I've always made time to tutor. At the end of the school day both in CA and here in PA I provided one-on-one English and Math instruction to many home-bound students. I've also worked as an Independent Studies instructor, helping students with all their coursework while preparing them for the SAT's and state standardized tests. While I love teaching, the best part comes from tutoring and seeing automatic understanding from my clients.
I currently teach 10-12th grade remedial Reading and ESL Language Arts, am an adjunct Reading professor at a local community college, and I regularly tutor in reading, writing, test-preparation and all elementary subject areas. I've taught a semester long SAT prep course at a local high school as well. Throughout the years, I've successfully assisted people of all ages strengthen their reading, writing, math and study skills. I'm confident I can help you as well.
I look forward to working with you! Hello, thanks for reading about me! After living in the California desert for five years, it's great to be back in Pennsylvania. M son, G dude, was a D+ before meeting Lynsy J. and now he is a solid B. Thanks to Lynsy he is full of confidence and is enjoying English and school. Just after only a couple of lessons he has achieved so much!
My daughter had hit a wall preparing for the ACT Reading section. She had taken the ACT on three previous occasions and her reading score was simply not moving, regardless of the preparations she had done. Lynsey suggested some additional practice materials for her and worked with her for five tutoring sessions. Her reading score the next time she took the exam showed a very nice increase of 2 points. We couldn't be happier with the results!
I learned a lot about the different types of propaganda in writing. I also learned about the different styles of irony in the allegory Animal Farm.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Test prep is not simply about knowledge. It's about speed and the administration of test-taking strategies as well. As a high school public school English teacher and Reading Specialist of 12 years, one of my job duties is to get students ready for high stakes standardized tests. For my sophomores-seniors, I focus heavily on the college entrance exams. I have taught SAT prep. courses to full classrooms and have independently tutored all modules of the ACT for almost as many years as I have been teaching. My students and clients have always reached their ACT goals or improved. I focus on the areas/skills that need improvement, not in areas that don't. With my expertise and skills I know I can assist you in reaching your goal, too!

I have always had a natural affinity for math, so much so that in second grade I made the ultimate decision to become a high school math teacher. During my high school years I tutored my friends who found math confounding. In college I majored in mathematics education. Well, that is...until I changed my mind and switched to study English education. Throughout college though, I still continued to privately tutor all math subjects to those who struggled. Although I don’t currently teach math in front of a classroom, I still wanted to keep math as part of my life. I've consistently tutored Algebra One through Trigonometry for the past nine years. I keep my Algebra One teaching strategies up-to-date by discussing and practicing my techniques with Math teachers in my building. All my Algebra clients have improved immensely under my assistance, so with my expertise and experience I know I could greatly benefit your child as well! Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions.
I am a certified Reading Specialist trained in the Wilson program. I earned my master's degree in Reading in 2010 and since then I have been teaching people of all ages to improve their phonetic abilities.
I am a certified K-12 Reading Specialist who currently teaches high school and college reading and tutors in elementary reading, writing, and math. Throughout my six years of tutoring I have helped numerous elementary aged children, the youngest aged 6, increase and improve on their phonetic and syntactic reading abilities.
Many young children struggle with decoding, comprehension and idea organization. If the hardships continue throughout elementary school without any intervention then middle and high school will prove to be extremely difficult and frustrating for the child.
With my education, experience, and expertise I am confident I can give any child the tools and strategies to help improve their reading, writing, and math skills.
Math and reading are the basis of all other subjects in school. Without strong mathematics fundamentals students will have difficulty with various math courses later on.
For my high school senior project (many years ago) I tutored mathematics to a class of 6th graders, and in my first two years of college I was a math education major. Although I did not follow math as a career, I have been independently tutoring in the subject for over six years. I have had math clients of all ages from 1st grade through adult.
When tutoring math, I focus on understanding the strategies and organization of various types of problems. If a person does not understand why and how a strategy works it will not be retained for the future.

Phonics and word recognition are the basis for reading and comprehension. As a certified Reading Specialist, with a Master's degree in Reading/Language Arts, I have had the pleasure of teaching and tutoring all age groups, from elementary school to high school, the rules and conventions of the English language.
During my eight years of teaching English/Reading I've seen first hand how a weakness in phonics recognition can greatly affect a person's proficiency in reading and writing. Organizational techniques and proper note taking skills are the beginnings of a successful, relaxed student. Students seem to be inundated with various methods to manage and record information, so they become confused as to which way is "right."
I can teach them study skills, note-taking skills and organization skills that will insure success if utilized properly. I have been tutoring study skills for six years, taught college-level study skills classes for 3 years and have been through numerous professional development courses that focus on the beneficial note-taking strategies.

Standardized tests are not simply about knowledge. They are also about speed and test-taking strategies as well. As a non-native speaker of English, taking a college entrance exam in English, with only a short amount of time for each section, can be very difficult. I understand this struggle, as I see my students deal with it everyday. I have taught various levels of ESL classes for 8 years. I have utilized various methods that have helped them succeed in the classroom and on tests. My TOEFL clients have also always improved their skill/scores both in English and on the exam. With my skills and experience, I know I can do the same for you!
Writing is one of the most important modes of communication. Without proper writing skills messages can become hard to read and the intended meaning lost. I am a certified English teacher and Reading Specialist with over nine years teaching experience in the classroom. For these past nine years, part of my students' daily routine was to write minimum a paragraph a day utilizing various forms and genres. I used their own work to assess need and their own work to help them improve in their areas of weakness. I have always taught writing through context, not writing through worksheets. With my methods students are able to create/edit using proper grammar and organizational skills thereby improving their writing abilities.
With my knowledge and experience I know I could help any person reach a new level of writing ability!
