I am currently a 2nd year medical student at the University of Pennsylvania with research experience in biochemistry and cellular biology. I worked as a TA in chemistry and advanced biochemistry courses and also have experience volunteering as a tutor and mentor for elementary and middle school aged students in Philadelphia, PA.

I am a second-year medical student so I am a passionate scientist and I love getting students of all ages excited to learn about science through connections to everyday life and simple experiments. I have more than 6 years of research experience on topics including infectious diseases (TB and influenza) and cellular biology and I would love to be able to share my passion for scientific discovery with students. I also have more than three years of experience as a teaching assistant for college chemistry students and I have taken several seminars focused on fostering an interactive and inclusive learning environment.

I enjoy teaching math and science using diagrams and quizzes to help students synthesize information and foster problem-solving skills.I love the logic and clarity of math and I took multivariable calculus, linear algebra and statistics courses in college.

Studying for the MCAT is a daunting but key part of the medical school application and I can share strategies for maximizing studying efficiency and for understanding big picture concepts that will pay off during the test. As a former TA for advanced biochemistry courses in college I can provide lessons on high-yield MCAT concepts and pathways in biology, chemistry and physics. My experience as a medical student allows me to teach anatomy, physiology, and biology concepts that are the foundation to preclinical science curriculum in medical school.

Please contact me with any questions about my background or coursework or to schedule sessions. I look forward to working with you!

Genetics

I completed a college genetics course at Swarthmore College and did 3 years of molecular biology research that involved bacterial genetic recombination and protein expression. Additionally, I took a genetics course in medical school and learned about genetic risk factors for disease, both Mendelian monogenic diseases and also the complex genomic and epigenetic markers associated with complex polygenic disease. I also have specific research expertise on using and reading about genetic research methods including sequencing, knockdowns and epigenetic markers. I can help with genetics questions from solving Punnett squares to advanced experimental methods in genetics and molecular biology.

Test Preparation

MCAT,

MCAT

I scored a 520 on the MCAT exam and can prepare students to feel confident for test day. I have a background in biochemistry and biology and can provide helpful summaries for students to apply to challenging concepts. My approach to MCAT is question based as the test requires problem-solving skills in addition to memorization and synthesis of key science concepts. I have specific expertise in teaching and summarizing physics, biology and biochemistry concepts necessary for the MCAT.

Extremely knowledgeable and patient tutor

I started meeting with Elizabeth half way through my MCAT prep because I felt lost and overwhelmed. One of the biggest things she helped me with was creating a clear study plan each week so I could stay on track, which shows she's willing to help beyond just the content. That being said, Elizabeth was so knowledgeable about every section on the MCAT! I felt like I could ask her any question and she would know how to explain it clearly and in terms that I understood. I can easily say that my 510+ score was largely because of the work I did with Elizabeth. Ultimately, she is extremely kind and understanding as well as a wonderful tutor and I can't recommend her enough!
