Bio

Hi, I'm Alex. I graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I previously spent 4 years as a Music Education major, but ultimately decided that I enjoyed programming more. During that time I received private lessons and acquired a taste of what I prefer from an instructor - concrete feedback and structure. I prefer to teach coding by writing some and then explaining it.

I learned how to program in C when I was 10 years old with the help of internet forums, and have since helped strangers on such forums in a similar fashion. I've been tutoring on Wyzant since March 2021, and the most frequent topic is Data Structures.

I'm comfortable tutoring: C, C++, Java, JavaScript, and SQL. I'm familiar conceptually with web back-end and scalability, but I'm rusty on Node.js.

If any of my students have any concerns, suggestions, or feedback, I welcome it openly. Feel free to contact me for any questions or to schedule a lesson!

Alex really knows his stuff

It’s taking me a while to get the hang of C++ and Alex is getting me there. I couldn’t do it without him. He helped me with my college assignments and now he is giving me projects so I can prepare for my next class.

Java Read/Write From/To a File

My system gave us some formatting trouble, due to my unique system font and high contrast settings - a problem I've encountered before, just not while trying to write to a file in Java. But, we got it figured out. Every other part of the assignment was a breeze. Alex was excellent, as usual. Patient with my wonky settings (I have some visual impairment) causing unusual problems and knowledgeable enough to work around and resolve them. Thanks, Alex!

Detailed and knowledgable

Alex takes the time to explain the basic things that escape me plus dives deep into the code I am having issues understanding. Alex provides helpful suggestions for other learning tools that have really helped me

Intro to Java Program

Alex was knowledgeable and tremendously helpful in every way I needed her to be. It was also quite a long first session at 3.6 hours, and she was fully dedicated the whole time. Hands down the best, most capable teacher I've ever had. Totally thankful. More than worth the money invested. Planned another lesson for next week. If you need coding help, look no further. Alex has definitely got ya covered.
