Bio

Hello friend, I'm Thierno! I graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Tech with a degree in Computer Engineering. I'm now a Software Engineer at a lighting controls company in Philadelphia! I often hear students say "I hate math!" or "I will never understand programming!" but I'm convinced it's because the teachers didn't make it as fun for them as Virginia Tech teachers made it for me. I truly believe math and programming are arts that need to be taught with enthusiasm and real-life...

I truly believe math and programming are arts that need to be taught with enthusiasm and real-life examples.

My tutoring journey started during my second year of college as I was sitting in the TA's (Teaching Assistant) office. I was working on a project due that night and I couldn't figure out why my solution wasn't correct. When I asked the TA for help, she explained my mistake so well that not only was I able to find the correct solution but I was also able to help the other students that were waiting in the office. It was epic! I loved it so much that after a week of hanging in the TA's office learning and helping out my classmates, I reached out to the professor to ask for TA opportunities for the next semester. Little did I know I would become a TA for various classes in Computer Engineering until graduation!

On a daily basis, I code in C#, JavaScript and Java but my favorite language is C++! I believe the specific programming language you'd like to work on is not as important as the programming concepts we'll learn together. After you master the concepts, the syntax is the easiest part I promise!

As your tutor, I will make sure that you not only understand the lessons but also are able to explain it to whoever else that might need it. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

In Fall 2019, I graduated summa cum laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Engineering. During my undergraduate years, I was a teaching assistant for various freshmen, sophomore and junior level classes such as Introduction to Computer Engineering, Data Structures and Algorithm, and Microcontroller Interfacing. I'm still in contact with some of my students and occasionally hold online review sessions. It is important to note that most classes offered by the Computer Engineering Department at Virginia Tech are in C++ or C.

Amazing and patient tutor!

Thierno explains concepts very well and is the best computer science tutor I have used so far with Wyzant. He talks you through everything and makes sure you are understanding.

Very very very good tutor!

Thierno did a very good job at helping me understand the materials for my assignment, and also help me complete it. This assignment means a lot to me, as it basically determines if I pass or fail the class, so this was a great help! I look forward to more sessions in the future!
