About Michelle

I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education (GPA 4.0/4.0), and before that I graduated summa cum laude (GPA 3.83/4.0) from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Hispanic Studies. I have been tutoring for over 10 years, and I have tutored nearly all subjects as well as SAT and LSAT prep. I scored a 2340 (780M, 780CR, 780W) on the SAT and I scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT (176). I tutored for over four years at Academia Education in California, where I tutored everything from history (U.S. & European) to English, Spanish, Biology, and Physics. I also worked for an SAT prep company called Revolution Prep. I taught SAT classes (approximately 15 students per class) and tutored students privately. All of my students improved their scores, ranging from scoring in the 900s on a first practice exam to 1700 on the real SAT, to bumping students who were scoring in the 1800s-2000s to above 2100. Most recently, I created the curriculum and taught classes for an SAT prep course at Delcastle Technical High School.

I have taken university-level classes in Economics, German, Math, Art History, Psychology, Spanish, Cognitive Science, Communications, Communicative Literature, Health and Societies, Marketing, Anthropology, Statistics, Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Physics, and Geology. In addition, I scored a 5 on the following APs: Biology, Calculus AB, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, Art History, European History, U.S. History, and Literature.

I scored a 780 on the math section of the SAT. Math has always been an easy subject for me, and I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam in high school. I have tutored all levels of math including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

I scored a 780 on both the Reading and Writing/Language section of the SAT. I also scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT - most of which requires being able to read and comprehend very complex passages and logical arguments. I learned to be an excellent writer from my parents, both of whom are lawyers and possess superb written communication skills.

I scored in the 99th percentile on the LSAT. When I was studying for the test, I took every practice test (there are ~60 published practice tests) twice. This is a huge benefit to you, because you want an LSAT tutor who is extensively familiar with as many practice problems as possible. I also own every published LSAT, as well as the PowerScore books. I have betweeen 20 and 30 books altogether, and as my tutoree, you would be able to use any of my materials that you wished to use. I studied for the test for over a year, and can confidently say that I am highly qualified to tutor the LSAT.

I have extensive experience working with students with learning disabilities. I have worked with students who have ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and Asperger's syndrome. I recently worked with a student who was struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. With my help over a period of months, she was able to graduate from her graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Not only do I have extensive tutoring experience, but I also have real classroom teaching experience. I taught high school Spanish for two years in Wilmington, Delaware. I absolutely love tutoring, and helping students learn is one of my greatest passions. I am very patient and understanding with students, and I would love to help you, your son or your daughter with whatever subject they are having difficulty with. Hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have been working with students who have ADD or ADHD for over ten years. As part of my high school teaching certification, I am certified to teach children with various learning disabilities, and ADHD is one of the most common I have seen over the years. I have found that an emphasis on time management and organization, structure and routine, and frequent breaks are very helpful.

Common Core

As a high school teacher I had to be extensively familiar with Common Core. I have used Common Core standards in my classroom, and I also studied them extensively through my Master's in Secondary Education. I am familiar with lesson planning and execution as well.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have extensive experience working with students who are in kindergarten through 6th grade. When I worked for Academia Education in California, I tutored over 50 students who were in this age range. Since then, I have private tutored many elementary students in the Philadelphia area. I have worked with K-6 students on everything from elementary math and reading skills to homework help. Organization, time management, handwriting, study skills, and motivation/perseverance are the main areas that I focus on when working with students of these ages. I am very patient and understanding, and never get frustrated with my students because I know they are giving 100%.

Homeschool

I have worked with many students who were homeschooled for various reasons. I worked for years with one student who was homeschooled because of his religion, and another who was homeschooled because of mental health issues. But I have also worked with many students whose parents simply chose to homeschool them over the available public schools in the area.

LSAT

Here's a little more info about my LSAT qualifications:

I scored a 176 out of 180 (in the 99th percentile) on the LSAT. When I was studying for the test, I took every practice test (there are ~60 published practice tests) twice. This is a huge benefit to you, because you want an LSAT tutor who is extensively familiar with as many practice problems as possible. I only missed two questions on the logic games, and can do most games within 5-7 minutes. I also own every published LSAT, as well as the PowerScore books. I have betweeen 20 and 30 books altogether, and as my tutoree, you would be able to use any of my materials that you wished to use. I studied for the test every day for over a year, and can confidently say that I am an expert. I look forward to hearing from you!

Marketing

I currently work in marketing - for a market research firm in Philadelphia. I have worked with brand teams and ad agencies extensively. I also took multiple Marketing classes at Penn and have a very strong foundation in marketing and advertising.

Microsoft Outlook

I use Microsoft Outlook every day in my 9-5 job. I am very familiar with the application, including creating calendar invitations and manipulating the settings and preferences.

Praxis

In order to teach high school, I had to pass both the English and Spanish PRAXIS exams. Because of my extensive knowledge in other subject areas, I would also be able to tutor for the PRAXIS in other subjects.

Project Management

I currently work as a Project Manager at a consulting firm in Philadelphia. I have perfected my skills in terms of managing different project tasks, time management, and delegating work to other employees. I also have excellent client communication skills and I'd love to share my knowledge with any aspiring project managers.

Great teacher!

Patient and very thorough! Highly recommend for LSAT review. Went through 4 types of logic games and deconstructed each of them.
