About Dante

As an individual who has spent the last 24 years of my life in school, I am all too familiar with the stress and anxiety that comes with every exam. I have also felt the satisfaction, pride, and confidence that comes from earning a top score on an important test, and the frustration and dismay that follows a disappointing grade. When I began tutoring Biology and Chemistry in college, I discovered that helping someone else achieve his or her academic goals was even more rewarding than performing well myself; it was this discovery that ignited my passion for tutoring. Being a part of the tutor-student team provides me with the rare opportunity to help others maximize their potential and to directly participate in the intellectual growth and development of others.

One of the many things I have learned during my time as a student and a tutor is that no two people have identical learning styles. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough teachers to give every student the personalized instruction that would best suit him or her. As a tutor, I have the opportunity to adjust my teaching style and pace for each student in order to find the best way to help that student learn. I understand the importance of creating an atmosphere where students feel comfortable asking questions or requesting clarification, and I always do my best to establish this comfort early in the tutoring relationship.

As a premedical student at Wake Forest University, I developed a strong foundation of fundamental scientific knowledge by taking advanced courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. After graduating magna cum laude from Wake Forest with a B.S. in Biology, I continued to expand my understanding of Biology and Biochemistry by enrolling in the dual degree MD/PhD program at Thomas Jefferson University. After spending the first two years of the program in medical school I completed the USMLE Step 1 exam (a mandatory standardized exam for all medical school students), scoring in the 99th percentile of medical students nationwide. As required by the MD/PhD program curriculum, I subsequently transferred to the graduate school at Thomas Jefferson University, where I am currently in my fifth and final year as a Neuroscience PhD student. This past summer, I was hired by Sidney Kimmel Medical College to serve as a tutor for incoming medical students, in order to prepare them for their first two years of medical school.

In addition to my experience taking the MCAT, where I scored in the 96th percentile of test-takers nationwide, my time in medical school and graduate school has strengthened my understanding of the concepts tested in this exam. Moreover, my experience taking standardized tests in medical school has further honed my ability to triage questions, reduce pretest anxiety, and develop effective study habits for these important tests.

If you are interested in learning more about my experience in college and graduate school or are interested in scheduling lessons, please reach out to me! To those students who are committed to reaching your full potential, I will make it my mission to turn your dream into a reality.

Testimonials:

Bon K. MD, MPP
Director, IDeA Program

I first met Dante in the spring of 2017, when he applied for a summer teaching assistant position at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. The job, established as part of the IDeA program, was designed to prepare a select group of incoming students from Princeton U. for medical school and their first board exam. Upon meeting Dante, I was impressed by his professionalism, enthusiasm, and intelligence, and quickly determined he was the best candidate for the position. I worked with Dante to design the summer program’s ambitious curriculum, which was tasked with introducing the basic anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of every major organ system. I was impressed with Dante’ autonomy and initiative, and quickly learned to trust his judgment; ultimately, Dante was responsible for the organization, flow, and content of the daily 3-hour lectures. Dante quickly developed a strong rapport with the students, and was able to cover large quantities of material while keeping the students interested and engaged in his lectures. As the summer program drew to a close, it was clear that Dante had helped his students not only by teaching them a wide range of broad concepts, high-yield facts, and effective study habits, but also by providing them with a sense of comfort and confidence in anticipation of their first day of medical school. In short, Dante did an outstanding job preparing his students for success in medical school, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to gain an edge in their studies.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Very knowledgeable and thorough tutor

Dante was able to help me with material for a graduate level neuroscience course. He was very helpful going through scholarly journal articles in related neuroscience fields. He explained concepts to me in a clear manner, helping me to understand jargon as well as difficult figures and graphs. He also took time to explain basic principles of neuroscience in ways that were easy to remember. I will
