I am currently in my 9th year of teaching, though it's been my dream career since I was very young. At the moment I teach high school special education and mathematics. I have previously taught everything from 2nd grade to high school Algebra I, and am comfortable working with students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. I am passionate about helping my students discover what they are capable of, and 9 years as a special education teacher has helped me master the art of flexibility in my teaching style in order to best meet the needs of each unique student.
I have my Master of Education degree from Temple University, and an undergraduate degree in Special Education from Seattle Pacific University. I was a successful student throughout my school career and have tested well throughout all standardized tests. I fully understand the importance of education in a child's future success in life and I genuinely love being a part of the process to help that child succeed. I am a very patient and flexible teacher who will work tirelessly to find the approach that best works for each individual student.
As a math teacher, I know that many students have a strong dislike or even fear of math and naturally assume they are no good at it. My favorite part about my job is the moment students realize math is not so scary after all, and when we find the approach that allows for the material to finally click.
I would love the opportunity to meet you and develop a plan to meet your needs. I look forward to hearing from you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Algebra 1 for 3 years to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. My students consistently show growth and I have developed several different methods that can be tailored to an individual student's needs.
I am certified in secondary mathematics, which includes Algebra 2. I teach Algebra 1 at my current school and tutor other students in Algebra 2.
I am certified in elementary and secondary math. I taught 4th and 5th grade math for four years and currently teach remedial math classes for high school students, most of which focus on elementary math skills.
I have taught foundational math skills, including prealgebra concepts, for 7 years to students of all ability levels.
