Keep It Simple, Smash your Tests.
Keep It Simple, Smash your Tests.
I have been tutoring professionally for 3 years. I have helped many students achieve their MCAT and course goals. All classes and tests ideally want you to gain fundamental understanding of the topics, and I aim for nothing less.
Let's put it this way: I can train you to solve problems, but if that is all I do and if you get asked the same concept a different way, you will be at a loss, and I will not have served you well. But if we do the hard work of earning you the ability to casually toss off laser-precise statements in everyday, spoken English about the scientific concepts, then nothing and nobody can take that knowledge from you, not even when you are sleep-deprived, jittery from hypercaffeination and stressed to the gills taking a test.
That is why I have perfected a system of "speaking" science. The following simple test is sensitive to see whether you need my help: Answer the question, "What is Energy?" without using the word "Work" and without regurgitating an equation. If you can do it, and feel 100%, unshakably confident in your answer, congratulations. If, like most people, you aren't, then you haven't simultaneously sharpened and simplified your mental model of the Universe. That is my specialty.
All science stems from the laws of Thermodynamics, and while not every student needs the breadth of an MCAT review, I have already developed whiteboard slides and lessons plans on every high note in the undergraduate scientific canon from Newton to childhood development. When necessary, I pull those slides for the benefit of students I am tutoring in undergraduate courses as well.
What makes me your best choice for science tutoring? Empathy, and Laser-sharp understanding of the material. By listening to you speak and answer questions, I can diagnose where the block in your conceptual or algorithmic understanding is. I have never stopped adding on to my understanding of science and integrating complex material back down to the fundamentals, even when I used to be a surgical resident, jokingly known around the wards as "the teachingest resident." I loved every science class I ever took, and it is my life mission to infect you with my passion for understanding this material as a chord of as few notes as possible.
What can I offer you for the MCAT that others cannot? I have practiced medicine as a surgical resident. I know what science you need to know and why you need to know it. I have taught MCAT primarily for 3 years, and I have developed focused material that, while broad, is primarily deep in the level of understanding it confers. I also excise bad learning and test-taking habits from you, training you like a decathlete: plenty of time in the gym (simple problems), practicing the event (MCAT-style problems), and coaching you on your form: how you should think about the topic (like the test makers) and how to reduce your error rate when under the gun (as you will be on test day). What you practice is what you will do on the test, and I will train you to crush this test and leave it in your wake.
If my excitement and energy about this material sounds exciting to you, contact me and we can start turning you in a science juggernaut.
