Bio

In high school, I was valedictorian of my graduating class of around 210 students. I took on six Advanced Placement classes in Spanish, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Physics Mechanics, Physics Electricity & Magnetism, and Human Geography. Three of these APs were taken outside of my high school provided curriculum. Upon graduating high school, I attended the University of Pennsylvania and obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. During my time as an undergraduate, I was a mentor and afterschool instructor in West Philadelphia for elementary aged students. I had a class of about 7 or 8 students and provided homework help, after school, in subjects needed by those students. After graduating, I became a case manager for teen parents and worked out of several high schools in North Philadelphia. Working with a case load of about 30 students, many times I was asked to assist with high school level assignments in a broad range of classes in math, science, English, math, history, and Spanish.

I am a native Spanish speaker, spoken at home with my parents. Additionally, I obtained a 5 in the AP Spanish exam in high school and continue to speak the language.

I perceive myself to be versatile in the subjects that I can tutor in. My tutoring style is very patient and hands on. I like to provide examples and show how things are done until the concept has been understood. I love passing on knowledge to others because it brings me joy when someone can go from confused to understanding concepts.

Having been valedictorian of my high school, I excelled in my math classes and especially enjoyed the subject. I am very good about providing examples and gauging the understanding by making sure that the individual is able to complete problems on their own. I have experience in tutoring high school students in these subjects as well.

I take pride in proofreading because many times professors or teachers will deduct points just for misspelling things. With that being said, being able to provide an extra set of eyes is important to catch any other errors before submitting work. I currently work as a recruiter and in my line of work, I review about 50-60 job applications a week. I am able to pick up on slight errors in this line of work as well. In addition to this, having assisted teens with their high school senior projects, I have experience in proofreading their work as well.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I have experience in working with diverse populations and just about any age group. I am very patient and understanding when it comes to adapting to different learning/tutoring styles.

Proofreading,

Proofreading

Although I speak two languages, both English and Spanish, I am usually able to pick up on errors when reading in English. During my time at Penn, I was an editor for La Vida Magazine, which was Penn's only Latino-interest magazine. The name of the magazine was in Spanish, but the content of the submissions were in both English and Spanish. Along with being an editor, I also submitted a few pieces of my own to the magazine.

Spanish

I am fluent in Spanish, as it was my native language spoken at home. I also went on to take Advanced Placement Spanish in high school and scored a 5 on the exam. I still speak it fluently and feel confident in my ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish.

As a Sophomore at Penn, I was a work study mentor with Communities in Schools Student Partnerships at Wilson Elementary School. Due to my dedication to the students and being eager to see students succeed, I was allowed the opportunity to take charge of the classroom, as the afterschool instructor for 3rd and 4th graders. I had to come up with a curriculum for teaching, along with homework help for all subjects, as needed by students. I was responsible for 7-8 students at a time.

Elementary Math

Since elementary school, I have always excelled in Math. I went on to achieve a 5 in both AP Calculus AB and BC in high school. During college, I was an after school instructor and mentor at an elementary school in West Philadelphia. For a few months, during after school, I helped third and fourth graders with their homework.
