About Maddy

During college at University of Pennsylvania, I tutored for both the Physics Department and the university's Tutoring Center. Through, the physics department, I held drop-in sessions for other undergrads taking introductory physics courses seeking homework help. For the tutoring center, I did weekly private tutoring, mainly in math. I tutored courses on topics ranging from methods of integration to differential equations. Currently, I am a graduate student in the Physics Department at Brown University. As well as my duties as a student, I was a Teaching Assistant for undergrad intro physics labs.

Throughout my undergrad years, I sought out tutoring jobs because of my love of teaching. I enjoyed especially the one-on-one tutoring through the Tutoring center since it allowed me to get to know my students and to really understand their learning needs. I learned the importance of adaptability in my teaching to be able to best serve the needs of each student. Most importantly, I was able to not only help students succeed in their courses but also share my own passion for math and science.

I have experience in math from algebra to differential equations, as well as an understanding of applications of math from physics. Tutoring math is not just about plugging and chugging or memorizing formulas but getting students to truly understand and learn to appreciate math.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

Studying Physics in both college and graduate school has given me a strong foundation in math and, of course, in science. I worked as a tutor for both calculus and physics while attending University of Pennsylvania.

Differential Equations

I took a course on differential equations while in college at Univ. of Pennsylvania. After receiving an A in the course, I was able to tutor that course through the university's tutoring center. It was one of the main courses I tutored while working as a private tutor through the tutoring center.

Geometry

I recently taught a high school Geometry course on Saturday mornings. I developed my own curriculum and lessons to address students' needs.

Physics

I recently completed a Master's in Physics from Brown University. My background in Physics has given me a strong foundation in math.

Prealgebra

My background in Physics has given me a strong foundation in all levels of math. I recently completed a Master's in Physics.

SAT Math

I took both the SAT and ACT exams when applying to college and received an 800 on the SAT Math section. My background in Physics has given me a strong foundation in math.
