About Jordan

In May 2009, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and in May 2011, I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction. Currently, I teach composition and creative writing courses at several respected college and universities in the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas. Accomplishing and engaging in these academic faculties has allowed me to develop highly successful skills and knowledge in the areas of writing, teaching, and one-on-one tutoring. As a professor, I have attained exceptional experience in helping students comprehend writing tasks and strategies piece by piece, at their own pace. Naturally, I give effective and thorough feedback, too.

As for my own writing, I have become an active member of the literary community by contributing pieces to numerous publications, including 'Subtopian Magazine,' 'FictionBrigade,' Connotation Press, Emerge Literary Journal, The Prague Revue, and The Lit Pub. My work has also been included in the following anthologies: 'Exquisite Quartet Anthology 2012' (Vagrant Lightning Press, 2013) and 'Strangers of Different Ink' (Wragsink, 2013). Finally, I am the founder and Editor-in-Chief of 'The Bookends Review,' a creative arts journal. Throughout my career, I've consistently earned commendation from students, faculty, writers, and editors.

Over the last decade, I have also developed into a respected literature and music journalist with a unique style. I've written for several local newspapers, and I am a regular contributor to many revered music publications, such as Examiner, Progression Magazine, Classic Rock Society Magazine, The Big Takeover, and Popmatters. I believe that journalism has a lot in common with academic and creative writing, and I often try to incorporate my published work into my teaching to exemplify what I discuss. Writing and music are my passions, and I enjoy applying my enthusiasm for and knowledge of these fields to my instruction and tutoring practices.

I have two degrees in writing, several years of teaching experience at the college level, and over a decade of professional writing experience. I approach tutoring with an understanding of students' potential issues and apprehension towards writing, so I act as a friendly yet serious guide to aiding students in improving at their own pace, bit by bit, with accessible exercises, thorough explanations (of rules and issues in regards to syntax, grammar, brevity, clarity, and the like), and kindly advice. I'm confident that I can help you and/or your student achieve any writing, reading, and critical thinking goals set in place, and I look forward to hearing from you ASAP and setting something up :)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I hold a BA in English and I currently teach as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities.

Grammar

For the past five years, I've taught as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities, so I have a lot of experience helping students with technical issues (such as grammar and syntax). I also have a lot of editing experience, both as a writer and the Editor-in-Chief of a literary journal.

Literature

I am a native speaker of English, and I've taught as an adjunct professor of literature at several colleges and universities for the past five years.

Music History

I've been a musician and music aficionado for over fifteen years, and I've been a professional music journalist for over a decade. I specialize in progressive genres, but I'm well versed in the greater spectrum of rock, indie, pop, metal, and the like. I even taught a course on how to write about music, which included lectures on The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, Genesis, Radiohead, Kate Bush, and many other artists.

Music Theory

I've been a musician (mainly a guitarist, but I also play some keyboards and piano) for roughly fifteen years. I studied music theory in college and still have a firm grasp on the essentials :) I'm also a music journalist, so I'm always putting my knowledge into practice in that capacity, too.

Proofreading

I've taught as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities for the past five years, so I have a lot of experience helping students proofread for issues with syntax, clarity, grammar, and the like. (For instance, I always advise writers to have someone else read their work aloud to hear how it sounds.) I also have a lot of editing experience, both as a writer and Editor-in-Chief of a literary journal.

Reading

I hold two writing degrees (a BA in English and an MFA in fiction), and I currently teach as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities. In addition, I've also been writing academic essays, fiction, poetry, and music/literary criticism for over a decade, with hundreds of pieces published thus far. Lastly, I'm the founder and Editor-in-Chief of a successful literary journal. Feel free to view my full profile, but suffice it to say that I'm very confident that I can assist you in this subject matter :)

Spelling

I've taught as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities for the past five years, so I have a lot of experience helping students understand the correct spellings for certain words, depending on how they're used (including homophones, homographs, and homonyms).

Vocabulary

I am a native speaker of English, and I've taught as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges and universities for the past five years. Prior to that, I earned a BA in English and an MFA in fiction. I've also been publishing essays, fiction, poetry, and music and literary criticism for over a decade, and I run a successful literary journal. I'm very confident that I can assist you and/or your child/student in this subject matter.

Writing

I hold an MFA in fiction, and I've been writing academic essays, fiction, poetry, and music/literary criticism for over a decade, with hundreds of pieces published thus far.
